What, you don't like seeing what random Bryce Harper pictures would look like with 1989 Topps designs? How about if they offered them with a blue border as well? Would you like them better then? If not, then how about if Topps also release a green, orange, red, and gold version of that card? All with different serial numbers. image

Then to further mix it up, they could also make a short printed version of that card with a fake little lens flare on the image.

This needs to end with, "I dont like green eggs and ham"
  • I personally cant stand those cards that try to look all retro. I agree, enough is enough. Unfortunately they have run out of ideas and are clearly trying to make money off older style cards to the collectors today to try and "connect" with them and make them feel all nostalgic in hopes that they will spend more. And since were on the subject, enough with Jersey/Patch cards. Those are so boring and the player probably never even wore the darn thing. And putting it on and immediately taking it off doesn't count either. Just the other day I saw a card with a button on it. A BUTTON!!!! Is that suppose to be special or something?!

I would love for them to come out with a new set with no foil, bells or whistles. Just regular cardboard stock like in the old days.

They have tried this in years past with Topps Total (I believe the name of the product was Total) but they were never well received without the gimmicks and inserts everyone has come to love. I am all for having Topps produce one collectable card set a year but those days have passed. The foil refractor with blue borders numbered to 3 or less are sadly here to stay.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Wasn't Total still on thicker cardstock like 89 upper deck? If they want retro, put gum back with the REAL cardboard.

    Thanks,

I did like the 2011 Topps variation cards that had old and new HOFers in great action shots.

What I have noticed about Topps in the last couple of years is they will take a big name player like Bryce Harper and give him #75 for instance. They will have Harper on a card diving, running, jumping up against the wall, throwing, batting, and they are all #75. So now you have 4 or 5 or even 6 different #75's to get for the Master set if you want to complete the darn thing. Not to mention each of of those cards come in the Target-red, Walmart-blue, & Toys-r-us-purple, not to mention the green, black, orange, yellow/gold and other colors they add.

I like the cards of today, just as long as I can collect the base card only, but with the 5 different poses, it may not be worth it. They end up taking a set of 660 cards and turning it into 1,000 cards.

    Later, Paul.

89 upper deck was not thick cardstock, IMO.
  • While I like the Heritage and Archives line, I get more annoyed at the number of variants for a single player (such as Bryce Harper). I also am annoyed with the number of subsets within each set. It seems as though they made the same set years ago, with the exception that All-Stars, Record Breakers, Highlights and any other card that was a base card, are now insert cards. And yet, they are of still no more valuable than the base card. So there seems no reason to separate them out, but if only, to psych out customers into thinking they got a valuable card.

I like the numbered cards. But dont like all the tinted variables that go with it. I like the autos, but dont like the phony "game-used" patch cards. I like short print cards, but dont like artificially induced super-short print cards (like the Archives Bryce Harper).

Generally I dont mind the designs they have done recently. I dont like Bowman cards as they all look the same year to year in the past 4 years (IMO). I like the Chrome cards. But I dont like Bowman Chrome cards sticking their butts in the middle of regular Bowman packs.
