Barry Sanders

I always knew that Barry Sanders had a great college football season before being drafted by the Lions. However, not being a huge follower of college football in the 1980s (except for Michigan) I did not realize just how incredible his last season was and how many NCAA records he broke that year until recently seeing "A Football Life" episode on Sanders. The thing that stands out the most is that he averaged 238 yards rushing per game that season and nobody else in NCAA history has even averaged 200. Below is an ESPN article link on that season as well as my favorite card of Barry.

Not old enough to have seen Jim Brown. But seen them all from Payton - present. Barry's the best I've seen. My 3 favorite cards from 89 Pro Set are the Barry, Deion and Derrick Thomas' rc's.

For the longest time, I thought Barry's left leg was the leg that is trailing to the bottom left of the card. Then one day, I decided to observe the card closely, and realize that was somebody else's leg! image

How was he in person? He seems very quiet when on television or when is in commercials. I'd love to see Barry in person.

My favorite athlete ever by a mile!
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I rate payton as a better RB as a whole.
Jim Brown is in a league by himself.

But as a jaw dropping WOW!!!!! Barry has no equal. Always considered him way better than Emmitt.

Had Barry not retired so early and built some all time stats ths disscussion would have no discussion.

How many running backs could lose 5 yards and you say great run lol

Undoubtably, too many youngsters around here that never saw Gale Sayers play. Barry is right there with Gale and Jim Brown.
BTW, Barry's card above looks like he's wearing one of those house-arrest monitoring devices on his leg.
