The Review/Bump Hall of Fame

Forgive me if this has already been a thread. If not, Clockwork's recent bump to 10 of his favorite Gwynn got me thinking: it would be cool to have one thread where we can post our best review/bump results. If anything, it will keep hope alive for those of us determined to see an unlucky card get its due props one day. I'm sure it will also have the adverse affect of making us pull the trigger on reviews that become a crap out. Either way, fun. I will kick it off with my one noteworthy review, of a card since sold. That's all I got so hopefully there are more success stories out there...

Was a 9.

Cool idea, I wish still I had the card, but I had a 1972 Topps Carlton Fisk go from an 8 to a 9.

Went from a $120 purchase as a 9 to a $1200 sale as a 10...and I've regretted it every day since. Best looking card I've ever owned.

Great idea for a thread Matt

I wish PSA would start using stickies. This thread can easily be buried if we're not careful

Outside of the Gwynn, this is my other success story!

It went from an 8.5 that I paid $150 for to a 9 going for $1,000

And this is my next review, dropping it off next week. The original grader gave nme a 9, but it's clearly a 10. Mistakes happen! imageimage

Whoa-- there is a lot to absorb already here...

A THREE-GRADE BUMP?! Daaaaaamn. That has got to be a record. The Oliva was already an amazing story going from 8.5.

Now as to that 74 Fisk, I am ashamed to say how I have been sleeping on that card my whole life. What an awesome image.

Clockwork you have to have used up all your review luck with the Gwynn and Jeter. That Jeter, they know it's a big card. Similarly, they know the MJ is the King Kong of modern cards, so they are brutally harsh on it. If that bumps to a 10 you need to buy me some lotto tickets.

Good question. Reviews always seem odd to me...why would PSA want to bump something on a review? It's like admitting that they didn't know what they were doing the first time they graded it.
  • Not sure they "want" to bump any cards. I do know they want submitters to continue to bring cards forward, and threads and bumps like these drive subs and fee's. It's really quite amazing that a card can go from a 5 to a 9, or 7 to a 10. Sure doesn't give me a lot of confidence in subbing cards if it's that much of a crapshoot.

I will call mine a double bump. 1972 Staubach rookie. Old Flip PSA 6 Dead nutz centering LR. TB was 55/45. The corners were sharp except one was touched. I thought it was a dead ringer for a 7 if not an 8. I sent it in and got the seven. Nice upgrade for a $100 purchase. When I had my 1972 set at 100% I sent in the free grades for each team and the whole set. I cracked it out again and it came back an 8. $400 profit baby.
