With high end cards really sky rocketing as of late, I was thinking last night had Dmitri Young waited another year and auctioned off his collection today, what do you think the overall difference in hammer price today would be versus last year?
There is no science behind this, but I am going to say his collection would bring 20% more than last year, which would equate to approximately $600K.
Lastly, If you won a card from last years auction, and still own it, please feel free to share it. I haven't scanned it, but I own the 86 Topps Traded Bo Jackson PSA 10.

Some of the auctions were prime example's of buying a holder not the card.
<< <i>I thought MANY of his cards commanded ridiculous prices based on the quality. The most glaring example was the 1954 Topps Kaline Psa 10 which had the appearance of a Psa 8 sample. The card had THREE pink spots on the red backround, was slightly off-center L/R, and the green back had slight chipping to the edges.

Good point, his 1975 Mini psa 10 Yount and Brett rookies were completely beheaded or were a mini variation of the mini card...ridiculous actually.
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
I had noticed some people do not like the flip with his name on it. I personally thought of that as a good way to identify the history of the card, but I could be wrong on that notion. I would imagine the collection where it came from would add some value to it as well. What are your thoughts?
As for the theory that they would command higher prices today, for the most part, I do not think so. Maybe some of the cards from the 60's or 70's, but that 1980's stuff has been making a second go-around on ebay has not been selling for more than originally. Why pay 2.5X the price for his name?

<< <i>I see this being the next Jose Canseco gimmick. Charge people a fee for him to submit cards with 'Canseco Collection' on the label. >>
Canseco doesn't have a great card collection. Dmitri had the finest collection of RC's that the industry have ever seen. 100 years from now, people will still be talking about his collection and the SCP auction when his collection was passed along to the marketplace.

End of the day, we are the market and we essentially "grade the graders" with our wallets. It goes for any grade. If the card is strong or even undergraded, it will bring everyone to the party and likely perform more like the next grade up, pricewise. I remember when I first looked through VCP's past sale scans and realized how multiple cards with the same grade can have wildly different eye appeal and in turn cost very different amounts.
Sidenote, but that is what always salts me: when a seller quotes a VCP sale of a stellar example for the grade, but is offering me an example that is nowhere near the same quality. "But it's the same grade," I am told. I then politely encourage them to find someone who buys the grade

Maybe I have too much time on my hands too
