Enough with the miscut, min size or whatever grades

Just got my results on what will be my final PSA submission. 3 cards, the usual $18 return shipping or whatever:
All 1971 Topps Greatest Moments:
Banks 6 (expected)
Yaz - miscut but hey, I get a grading voucher to spend another $18 on return shipping!
Fregosi - miscut but hey, I get a grading voucher to spend another $18 on return shipping!
I did this final submission because I had vouchers from previous cards that were deemed ungradable (cards that I pulled directly from packs that I know were 100% genuine).
I know people get these grades and just re-sub until the cards are magically deemed acceptable. I'm done.

+1, they are screwing us on shipping badly, then its like they do miscut on purpose and we still pay $18.00 on return shipping.

  • You think you take it bad, try living in Canada where min shipping option is $44 I believe. Which I could live with if it was by submission but that is by sub type, I've got a few odds and end single card subs to make but can't be bothered.

you have other options for grading, obviously without scans it's hard to say, but a bit more due dilligence of measuring your cards could help. Yes, this happens, the cuts with vintage cards out of the packs weren't perfect. Better luck next time, if you try again

'71T Greatest Moments are notorious for miscuts, amongst other frustrating flaws from this issue.

which is why they're so darn expensive in high grade.

goner - I know about the miscuts. I have sent in worse ones that are sitting in some pretty nice slabs as I type. The whole inconsistency of the process is what has me so fired up.

It's absolutely inconsistent. It's even worse with less popular niche issues with specific defects that are common. One grader will handle it one way, another will handle it completely differently. It's very hard to know what to send in as a result.

understood. we can agree that there is no clearly defined method for determining which of them deserve to be graded and slabbed......if some of the typical slope-cut examples are being graded, then they should all be graded.

I live in Canada and opened a Fed Ex account to save on return shipping from PSA.
  • I have about 20 cards I need to sub but after that batch I think I'm done as well. My two subs were reasonably fair, but inconsistent. The shipping cost from Canada - alomst 3 bucks per card on 25 cars - is cost prohibitive and makes re-subbing a losing proposition.

I'm not sure PSA cares if guys like me stop submitting, I think their model is built for large scale submitter's and they know that as long as I buy PSA cards my not submitting is a push for them.

I too have had several cards with good centering (65-35 or better) come back as "miscut". Upon re-submission EVERY ONE received a number grade from 6 to 8, with only one OC.

    Very confusing!

Joe - I don't think it's confusing so much as they do not have consistent grading in house. In your example, you subbed the same exact cards and got completely different results. I guess that's why so many people just shrug and re-sub but personally I cant afford it.
