Yasiel Puig

Is he the real deal?

Comments

  • Too early to tell, but I was at his debut game and he sure looks good, and brings a ton of energy to the team.

Eric, does this BIO seem more realistic? LOL

Yasiel Puig Valdés (born December 7, 1982) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Puig defected from Cuba in 2012, and signed a seven year, $42 million contract with the Dodgers. He made his MLB debut on June 3, 2013.

He's the epitome of "sell now". Like 1 out of every 10 of these "quick-start" guys becomes a superstar player for any extended period of time. Cespedes was on fire last season, now you can get his stuff for a fraction of what they were at his hottest point last season.

And Cespedes is probably a good buy right now along with Heyward. Both of them have been mired in slumps and suffered injuries, but appear to be on the mend. Wouldn't be shocked to see both of them really start lighting it up, now.

Puig appears to be the real deal. He's the antithesis of Domonic Brown, who I have been waiting a the past several years to start producing. Puig has gotten off to a great start and has been dominant at all levels since coming to the States last year.

The Dodgers think so. They guaranteed him $47 million.

Do your homework. Puig is ten times the prospect Maas was.

The Dodgers didn't want to bring Puig up to the Majors yet but with the injuries to Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford they needed to do something. Time will tell. Dodgers felt he is the real deal since he's guaranteed 43 million.

He's good, but 2 games does not make a career, and everyone's overly excited. I remember when Kevin Maas burst onto the scene in 1990 or so...the chaos that ensued for his cards was amazing for about a month

Maas' cards were hot for much of the 1990 season and into the off-season. He only played in half the 1990 season and hit 21 homers.

Ahh yes, Don finally has to go on the DL for the back in the summer of '90 and Maas becomes the next Don Mattingly. Or not. I used to have fun speculating on guys like Puig back in the day but got of the current player collecting a few years ago. 50/50. Kid could be a start, kid could be a bust image

How are those Jeremy Lin cards you bought at 15,000.00 to 25,000.00 dollars doing ?
  • That is a horrible looking card!

Kid has a cannon of arm, not many guys are exciting playing defense, he appears to be one of them

Puig reminds me a lot of Vlad Guerrero, in all facets of the game.

Baseball people have also said he reminds them of Bo Jackson due to his size, athleticism and overall game.

IBB in the 8th. How many rookies get that treatment in their 5th game? The kid's electric right now.

That's not unusual. Most IBBs come with 2 outs.

And to think that he was on deck in the 10th...he could have been the hero if it weren't for the wild pitch and Schumaker scoring from 3rd.

I would like to see that stat. My guess would be the biggest percentage come with one out and a runner on first or second

and I've got to think that little detail had to have been bouncing around Varvaro's head as he was pitching to Uribe.

In 2012, there were 43 IBBs with 0 outs, 388 with 1 out, and 624 with 2 outs.

The three most common situations for an IBB are:
    1. Runner on 2nd.
    2. Runners on 2nd and 3rd.
    3. Runner on 3rd.
