What is the most you would pay/have paid for a raw card online? Grade received-PSA 8

I recently paid $165 for a raw 1972 #300 (Aaron IA)-VCP is $135 in PSA 8. I bought it from a seller I have done business with in the past. The card is dead centered and looks sharp. I actually did not win the auction, but bought it when the winner did not pay. PSA logged it in today, so I will hold my breath until the grade pops. I paid for the 5 day turnaround. I have paid more for raw cards, but I was able to see them first.

My answer is boring, but I don't buy many cards online (raw or not).

Most I have ever paid is ~$50 (2008 Bowman Draft Refractor Auto).

I think for the right card, if I could be as sure as possible that it was authentic, I'd go to about $500.
  • Nothing wrong with paying premium for a nice looking card - especially if you know hands down its going to be an 8 from what you can tell. Well good luck and hopefully it comes back an 8.5 to make your purchase even better. Can you post a scan of the raw card so that I or (we) may take a look.

Now to answer your question, The most I paid for a raw card on feebay was $75 and that was for an 84 Clemens Rookie. Fortunately for me it came back a 9 so it worked out.

$417 raw online; I had it graded by PSA after purchasing, then sold for $2,500. Highest risk for an ungraded card that I did not see first-hand prior to purchasing, but the result worked out well, luckily.

Edited for the curious, it was a 1966 Venezuela Topps 100 Sandy Koufax that graded as a PSA 6.

Most I ever paid online for raw cards was $400. I bought a lot of 50s yankees cards for $400, there was about 15 cards total or so. One being a 56 Mantle which came back a PSA 4 and I sold it for $475 so it ended up working out for me. Only card I regret ever selling imageimage

  • The most I ever have paid for a raw card was about $140. The card did grade (this was way back when I was sending cards to BVG), but I definitely lost money on the deal.

Nowadays, I would top out at about a hundred bucks.

The card is at PSA-I'll try to post a scan when it comes back.

I'll still pay a lot of money for raw brand new Chrome-type cards.

But anything pre-1990, I wouldn't pay more than 20-30% book, no matter how nice the scan looks.

Edited to add: I'm pretty sure that the seller is a member here from way back, but not active in quite a while.

I bought a 1964 rose for 115 and came back psa 8. There is some real nice raw cards but I also got burned on a few 80- 110 raws that came back psa 6s too.

Eh - even raw $3k was a solid price at the time. Probably a $4500 card raw now.

That's a tough card to find in an 8....from the scan, it's tough to get a good read on the top two corners, but I think you have a good shot at an 8, if not better...looking forward to finding out the result!
  • I havent paid nothing to you guys do, condition isnt my top priority, the card is. I paid $50 for 3 1935 Goudey 4 in 1 that I sent into PSA and got back as PSA 4's. Nothing exciting, but I collect to collect and just like having the cards no matter the grade

I paid $275 for a raw Johnny Unitas rc (not on eBay), had it graded and it came back a BVG 7.
I don't buy too many raw cards unless I really feel I could make money having it graded and selling it (if I ever decided to).

$2600 from ebay. Still raw, and will probably send it in to PSA some time. I purchased a $1600 card from the same seller that graded PSA 6, so not really worried about the authenticity of it.

$510 for a Venezuelan Dempsey but condition was virtually irrelevant. It was the second copy known to exist so I didn't care what the technical grade was.

Great Ruth, I wanted to bid on that Ruth and Gehrig Angola even though we know it is not a wrestling card. I think that card is awesome!

Yep, that's the one I got for $2600. Definitely a nice card since you don't see Ruth and Gehrig together on a card that often. Unfortunately, I don't have a scan of it.

That Ruth is a monster, congratulations. Even harder than the La Morena.

I really enjoy buying raw cards at card shows and on Ebay. I limit the amt of money to a max of $250-$300. Anything over $300 or so I need in a slab. but I'd say most raw cards i buy are below $200. Today's scans are really good most of the time so obviously i try to select cards that i can buy at a grade lower than i think they will grade out. That doesn't work out all the time. I also have tried to establish a good relationship with just 3 or 4 Ebay sellers with good feedback selling raw cards. I've bought 40 or 50 over the last year or so. I graded 10 at the Chicago show last summer with no altered cards and was happy with the grades. I'm going to submit another 10 or 15 at the National. I just enjoy the rest of them. If I ever sell them I probably will have them all graded.
Interested in 60's and 70's psa and raw star and hof cards
  • just under $500 for a group of cards, including a poor 1941 Play Ball DiMaggio and a 1941 Double Play with Ted Williams. None would grade over a 2

I would pay a small fortune for a raw 1968 Topps 3D Clemente.

I have been collecting for nearly 30 years, and I have never seen a 68 3D card except at the Nationals.

Haven't seen this card before. Was surprised to see the sale price of the SGC NM 7 listed through PWCC was $9889.89 last April. Can't imagine what a 9 or 10 would go for.

The card received an 8. I overpaid a little, but the card is dead centered. I have certainly done worse.

I think I paid $110 for a '68 Bench that came back a PSA 7. I've purchased pretty large lots from Gregmorriscards that have all come back 5-7's and I pretty much paid top prices for, but, I don't really mind because his stuff can be trusted, IMO.
  • The highest I paid was $175 for a '67 Brooks Robinson that came back an 8.
