The Baseball Hall of Fame (as I saw it)

Well, it has taken a about a month, but I was finally able to sit down and chronicle my trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame as I promised. I will let the placards in the museum do most of the talking. It took me long enough to copy and paste all the pictures! haha. If you do have any questions about a particular picture let me know and I will try to help! I apologize for some of the pictures. I do take pride in my photography, however, with the different (mostly low) levels of lighting in the HOF, coupled with glasses cases, crowds etc. it was difficult for me to capture a great photo consistently. Hopefully you can enjoy the post regardless of those facts. Here we go...

When we first got to the Baseball Hall of Fame it was a beautiful day, so we decided to walk around the grounds a bit and enjoy the nice weather before we headed in. This weather vane was cool (It is atop the Baseball Archive which I am assuming is only open to VIPs or through appointments)

To the left hand side of the HOF, there is a small courtyard with a couple of statues:

Also, in the courtyard there was a small stone path leading to a very good catcher. My guess (from a distance) was Yogi Berra. But alas I was wrong...

As you make your way along the front of the building toward the main entrance, there is a cool standings board that they update daily:

There is a door to the side of the main entrance:

We took somewhat of a detour to check out this theater that plays a ~13 minute video showing the essence of baseball:

  • That was awesome. Thank you so much for sharing. I will sit down with my 12 year old son tonight and look at these together. I thoroughly enjoyed it , and I am sure my son will as well. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make the time to go to the Hall of Fame of the National card convention.

That Satchel Paige statue is unreal. His windup would intimdate alot of batters.

Awesome. Ive probably told the story a zillion times, but i grew up outside of Cooperstown and its my favorite place on earth (hence the username). Thanks for sharing. The library, i think, used to be open to the public. Ive been in it numerous times without any special pass. Up until the early 90s they held the Induction right in the park next to the Library. I liked it a lot better there, but theres no way they could fit it there now.

Hal ... thanks so much for sharing. It had to take quite a bit of time to make this post. I was at the HOF only once and that was about 20-25 years ago. GREAT PICTURES!

Really appreciate the work and time you took to share these wonderful images with us.
  • Thank you a bunch for sharing those pictures, As someone mentioned, this took a lot of time and I know because I usually post photos from the card shows I go too and it does take a bit of time. I feel like now Ive seen it all there and I don't have to go. lol. Those pictures were far more better than I imagined and thanks for the Maris photos as I was the one who requested those. Very cool to see the bat that broke the record which still holds today. Absolutely amazing stuff in this thread. A++

  • Awesome pics!!! Thanks for sharing ur experience. And thanks for ur time and hard work
  • Thank you for all the kind comments gentlemen! I really appreciate it. I just realized as well that I went a few years ago and there was a different exhibit that many would certainly salivate over. I may share that in a separate thread once this one dies down, as there are already a ton of pictures. Thanks again, I am happy to share! Hal

P.S. - Foo, I may have a much better shot of Maris' Record breaking as well if I recall. I will either post it in the a different thread with the older pictures I forgot about or I will PM you the picture

Great photo's, thanks for sharing. My family and I visited Cooperstown in mid-May for the VIP Experience. I highly recommend this for anyone planning a visit, especially those attending for the first time. You pay a flat fee that includes 2 nights at a local B&B as well as a chance to browse the hall for more than an hour AFTER CLOSING. The following day includes a behind the scenes tour of the baseball library and a special collections exhibit where items are pulled from the archive for close up view and pictures. We've done the experience 3 times over the past 5 years and enjoy it every time.

You can find the link at the Hall of Fame site. If I remember correctly, it is under the Plan Your Visit button.

My mom took me and a childhood friend there in 1979. This brought back some great memories.

    Thanks so much for sharing.

I've also recently (somewhat) found that friend on Facebook. I'll be sure to send him a link to this thread as well.

Sounding like an echo in here, but you deserve it -- great photos and thanks for posting!

I like how you saved the baseball card section for the ending... I was enjoying each pic, but I kept thinking, "Where are the cards??" Well, you did not disappoint. Thanks again!
