1980 Topps Variation

Does anyone know if PSA would slab a card like this as a variation or would it simply get a PD qualifier? Other than the missing ink, the card is a real gem. I have found info on the Fred Stanley/John Wathan etc. variations but have seen little on the Trammell.

Thanks!

PSA will only label graded cards with variations specified on the flip if the variation is published by SCD. I have a thread I started under the PSA Set Regristry forum here that details the process I went through in order to get a variation published and then labeled as such by PSA. Not saying that I think your Trammell would qualify, but give the thread a read and decide it you'd like to try your luck w/ SCD on this one.

Looks like you have something there.

In line with the other yellow/red name variations in 1980 Topps.

Not a recognized variation - yet. There are a few big Trammell collectors who'd be interested I'm sure.

As for your question - PSA would slab it - but not note the variation. Also they wouldn't give any sort of qualifier for the ink.

As mentioned above, variation would have to be listed in Beckett or SCD for PSA to denote on slab.

Maybe there should be 3 variations listed for 1980 Topps: name in red, name in yellow, and half 'n' half. Apparently PSA graders can't decide which one of the two to call the half ones like the Trammell here. Probably due to SCD only listing 2, not 3 types. No idea if the labels correlate to how the submission form was written up, but here is an example I found with a half yellow half red labeled as yellow and here is one with a half yellow half red labeled as red. More often than not though, these are labeled as yellow, not red by PSA.
