1975 Topps baseball rack packs: a recollection

The 1975 set has always been a favorite of mine, both the regular size and mini versions, and rack packs are what I remember most at the local toy/variety store, hanging on a peg on the wall, or scattered in the black box on the shelf, where you could flip through them in search of the best players from your local team (in my case, Tom Seaver, and for some reason, Jerry Grote, lol). 1975 was also the first year I began collecting and "flipping" cards where you'd slap down single cards from a stack (usually on someone's stoop) till you or your adversary was able to match the color combo and scoop up the stack.

Anyway, I got to thinking about all that after finding this rack earlier today, and thought I'd share this nostalgic moment with the board, lol..

  • Heck of a rack. Talk about perennial 70's All Stars.

My neighbor and I always role played in the back yard. He was always Johnny Bench. I was always Hank Aaron. We thought the AL was a strange martian league.
My favorite ball players throughout the years: Hank Aaron, Dale Murphy, Ellis Burks, Lance Berkman

I was nine years old in 1975, and that was my hey day. I remember buying grocery packs at the supermarket like it was yesterday.

    Thanks fior posting.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • Great story....we used to ride our bikes up to a 'party store' (thats what we call bodegas here) and buy packs & when I went to the grocery store with my mom on Saturdays if I was lucky Id get to get 1 grocery/rack pack looking for Tigers & Orioles players showing

I was a heavy buyer from 1974 through 1980. I don't ever remember seeing a rack or cello pack until '75, and I mostly remember buying a lot of cellos and racks from '77-'79, culminating in my buying an entire rack box in '79. Probably explains why '74 racks and cellos are a lot less common.

My mom and i would go to the Auburn Mall in Mass every month or so and my only stop was always ToysRus where there was this huge wire basket full of rack packs. I would spend the entire time there looking for the best stars on top and get to take 5 or 6 of them home.

Very fond memories of those packs.

You guys are youngsters. By 1975 my interests had shifted to girls and fast cars.10 years earlier I was doing the same thing with the 65's.Putting them in our bicycle spokes.flipping then was up against a wall and whoever was closest got the cards. I never flipped my mantle's or maris's. A few years later in the early 80's I went to my first card show at a Holiday Inn Gainesville Fla
Interested in 60's and 70's psa and raw star and hof cards
