Who was looking for a nice example of a GIII counterstamp on an 8 Reales?

"The Bank in order to make its money pass, stamped the head of a fool on the neck of an ass."

Can't remember who it was, but someone mentioned they were looking for a nice example.

Here's one coming-up for auction. Drop me a PM and i'll link you the details.

If I wasn't watching my numismatic budget closely, I'd be all over this one myself image

These countermarked pieces are somewhat variable. The holy grail is an uncirculated host with a well struck countermark, but the host coin grade is a complete lottery and can potentially be a virtual washer yet still have a perfect countermark! Couple that with the damage to the reverse from the countermark and you usually end up with a curate's egg. This piece looks to be a decent strike on the obverse, but this could be at the expense of the reverse which looks a tad weak with the missing brickwork detail. Still a nice well centred coin though and above average.
