What is the black X on the return of the jedi wax boxes. I see them all over Ebay? Does it lower the value?

Black X marks on any Topps boxes are returned merchandise that Topps received back from retailers and then resold at a big discount to other Topps account holders(mostly hobby dealers).
They marked them so they wouldn't be returnable again. Final sale.
