BGS 10 Pristine 1986 Donruss Canseco

What do you guys think will be the hammer price? This thing is currently at $330 with 4+ days to go. I do not have Beckett pop reports info but there can't be many of these around. And I know the 84D Mattingly went for big bucks recently. Let me know your opionions gentleman.

86D Canseco BGS 10
I collect vintage PSA graded SF Giants, Willie Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal and Perry. And modern players like Buster Posey, Will Clark and Barry Bonds.

I'd like to see what a PSA 10 (or even better still a BGS 10) 1986 Donruss Rookies Wally Joyner would go for. I've give you guys a cookie if you can tell me why it would be exceptionally tough for that card to get a 10. image

The Joyner's the top card in tight cello? Corners are probably usually touched/curved. I'll PM address for my cookie.

Baseballcardpedia to the rescue (looks like my guess was correct): Like Highlights, each 56-card set was set was wrapped in cellophane and distributed in a box that resembled a deck of playing cards and came packaged with a 15-piece mini puzzle of Hank Aaron. Unfortunately, the cellophane wrap caused a percentage of the Wally Joyner cards arriving in less than perfect condition, as he was the top card in each "deck." Donruss was able to fix the problem after it was called to their attention and even went so far as to include a card with their customer services department's phone number in their second printing.

Anyone else think that a Pristine grade should be what BGS and PSA Gem Mint grades SHOULD be?

What bugs me about any BGS grade is you have 3 subgrades of 10, and always 1 at 9.5.

Have there every been a BGS 10 were all subgrades are 10?

It just doesn't look good on the flip where there is always one 9.5 displayed.

I know I have some Gem mint 10's in my 1980 Topps set that I'm building that shouldn't really be 10's. I'm still new to the whole grading thing and when I first started, I believe I was buying the holder and not the card so to speak. A Gem mint 10 should literally be perfect in every way IMHO. I've noticed on some of mine some minor print imperfections, etc that are bothering me on some of the cards. I'm def going to upgrade some before it's all over. I will try to post some scans later on for you guys to take a look to see what I mean. I've seen 9's out there that look better than some of my 10's

Those Canseco graded BGS 10 have been selling for $300 so I'm kinda surprised to see it at this with 4 days to go. Considering past sales, I dont think the current price will be moviong till the last day and even then, it shouldnt go much further north in price.

Do people feel though that you should have to upgrade 10's? I've heard that term used on the boards before. I know that no one is perfect meaning graders but to have to upgrade your 10's seems a little ridiculous lmao. I know they have to give a little or it would be impossible to even get a 10, but for the most part 10's should be near perfect so their would never be any room for complaining, or being upset with sellers, ebay, or PSA. I've seen a lot of people in the past with links like "This is a 10?". They're shouldn't be any of that, but I'm still learning. image

I'm a HUGE Canseco fan and I dont even own this card in a BGS 10 nor do I really care too. Not that I couldnt afford it but as GemYanks mentioned - I dont really need this with 4 perfect 10's or whatever. PSA 10 is fine by me and that one I do have. That goes for any card really, not just for Canseco.

I agree with Foo..A PSA 10 is still a PSA 10 which is very nice. I also agree with above that having 4 subgrades with like 3 10's and a 9.5 is a little bothersome. I wouldn't like the looks of that but then again, I think I'm a little OCD lmao

Incidentally, I couldn't find one 1986 Donruss Wally Joyner in PSA anything on Feebay. You'd think that'd be one they'd try very hard to land a 10, like the 1993 SP Jeter.

Probably my favorite looking baseball set of all-time. I just love everything about. I remember when they first came out that they just had kind of a high end look that i had not seen up until then. It's too bad the rookies flopped that year, except for Fred McGriff, though there doesn't seem to be much demand for him.

The PSA 10 Joyner is one I had wanted for awhile. He was my favorite player as a kid growing up in Southern California.

    It's a pop 7, and one sold on ebay recently for 24.99 by 4SC. I'm sad I missed it...link.

I don't know that this BGS 10 gets a PSA 10, anyway. The centering is noticeably imperfect, the corners don't look razer sharp, there seems to be a little wear near the bottom of the right edge, and there's a minor print imperfection on the stripes near the bottom. I don't collect modern, but I feel like I could spend $600 much better on a vintage card!
