Any cherrypicks from 1953 ???

LochNESSLochNESS Posts: 4,829 ✭✭✭
I got a 1953 set for my dad for Fathers Day. It's in a red Capital holder that says "US Proof Set" but they're definitely not proofs. I'm thinking lower MS possibly AU58s with at-best one 65 contender. Anyway ... what should we look for?

On the Jefferson I was thinking we could count the steps. Is there a FS variety for '53?

What would you look for under the glass? image

Thanks in advance image

Nothing listed for 1953 mint sets in the Cherrypickers Guide.

For 1953 proofs, there is a DDO cent, a DDO nickel, and a DDO quarter with recut tail feathers.

    Good luck!

There are numerous nice RPMs on the S-mint cents and nickels, and I'm about 99% sure there's a nice 1953-D DDR quarter listed in the Cherrypickers Guide. Other than that, a full step nickel from any mint for the year would be a prize.

Cool, thanks guys! The cent is wheat S, so I'll look for the RPM.

I haven't noticed any mint marks on the other four. So ... they are P's right?

Check the 1953 Franklin for the FS-401 bugs bunny and FS-402 odc. Those bring a nice premiumimage

There is a 1953 Bugs Bunny half. Every one I have seen has been FBL.

Also, the S mint half has an RPM.
