Well, NYC Fame came to town 2-3 weeks ago. My group, The New Murderers, went there and auditioned. In the group there is:
Philip Holmes= J-Spillz
Alex Simpson= Smalls Gotti
and me,
Shawn Stockton= Tha' Pro
Well, we didn't think much of it. We are the best trifecta in Salisbury. There is a conference from all the people from the labels that were represented at the NYC Fame auditions, only the artists selected by NYC Fame are allowed to go. The conference is in Baltimore, MD on or around July 27th. Well, Spillz recieved a letter from NYC Fame yesterday. It was a RSVP.
It could be our big break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I do get signed, it has always been my dream, to a major label I will tell all yall first, and prolly give away some tixs and cd's.

Hehe.. believe this or not, I am co-founder/owner of a hiphop label. You can do a search on CDDB for "The Package" (what Music Match, Audio Catalyst, etc.) uses when listing names of songs and titles of CDs. We have 2 projects out with 2 more coming. One of our associates use to work with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. He has a song on his CD called "Don't Shoot Me" featuring Flesh-N-Bone was is now locked up.
An artist record deal = modern day slavery. You may get fame, but at the same time, you stay broke. You will get roughly $1 per CD sold in which your manager gets 20% of that and then you have to split that 80 cents per CD between all the members. We are BMI affiliated and everything is copywritten their Library of Congress. Each of our CDs are registered with Soundscan. A bit of advice: Release your own CDs. You will make more money that way. I've learned that through the years.

It's been the dream of all of us to get in the game.
We are thinking if we get signed to a 3-4 album deal, after that split and start our own label. But until that time we just want exposure.
Please PM me with your name and addy, your company's name and addy, and what genre your most interested in.
<< <i>Auto-Thats hot. We know that we will get a bad deal the first time around. I would have rather tried to be in the game that sittin looking clowned up on the sidelines sayin that coulda been me.

Actually, I've been into it since 1986 (for fun of making tapes). Didn't get into the business aspect til 1996. Had reviews in Rap Sheet Magazine (Oct' 96 issue). Over the years, I've gotten connection with college and major station DJ's and syndicate DJ's. Radio Promotions is a necessity, but expensive. That could run you from $500 up to $20,000. College DJ's are always looking for new material. We have songs played overseas also. The best way to start is complete a project, get it mastered, then professionally pressed up with barcode. Register the CD with soundscan (the majors always pay attention to soundscan numbers). Put your CD in stores in your area and try to form a relationship with the local stations. Maybe take out ads promoting your CD. When you do that, it's easier to get your material put on the air. Stations are all about making money (no matter what people tell you). Once you create a buzz and the sales pick up, people will eventually contact you.
