I envy the guys who have baseball cards of them

I think that is a big part of why I on/off have collected cards my whole life. Having a card of you, distributed by a major company, is a status symbol. Are there any members here who succeeded there ? Don't care if your career bit it, if you have a card of you, that's something you can take to the grave.

  • Steve Avery 1989 Topps card - changed my view on life.

Sitting there on the couch, with buddies slammin' beers and whatever 'else' with hair half way down my back. I'm there with a box of 89 Topps. Steve Avery then appeared. The dude was the FIRST card of a player, that was actually YOUNGER than me. Life changer right there. Had always seen players as older dudes. Mr. Avery was a couple months younger. Realization set in. Better get up off the couch now. Thanks Steve.

If you had been buying Topps cards in 1971 you could be Lisa Bole...and be on your own Topps card...which would now sell for more than most Topps 1971 commons
    Topps Baseball-1948, 1951 to 2017
    Bowman Baseball -1948-1955
    Fleer Baseball-1923, 1959-2007

I believe a few years ago there was a frequent poster here who had a cup of coffee in the bigs. Can't recall his name or if he had a card.
  • Is this an ATT commercial ?

ummm Wut ? i googled lisa bole and, well, found the 1971 topps lisa bole thing, but that would be different than infinity TIMES infinity mind explosion, and that was over 40 years ago. catch up. or in the minds of pulp fiction, mommy tomato daddy tomato and baby tomato were walking down the street, baby tomato start to lag behind Daddy tomato went back and stepped on and crushed baby tomato and said: ketchup (catch up)

Really ? That would be quite cool if so. If he had had a card, I'd hope he opened up to it. Would have simply provided my respect to the guy.

  • No meth needed to find lisa bole on the internet. Go to google.com and type the name in the box and hit enter. The pulp fiction thing? come on. ya gotta know it ? lame attempt at being humorous I guess.
  • As far as being older than a particular person and being envious, I graduated high school in 2003 which was the same year as Lebron James. I am like 2 months older than him. I went to MTSU to find out that I sucked at Anatomy and he went to the NBA and made millions. Also watched my Pistons pass on Wade, Mellow, and Bosh for Darko Millic! Fail.

yep, we all gotta admit it at some point. Heck, just gotta live and learn. And actually that is what is fun in life. The imprtortance of some things, like being a message board addict, which I am nowacting like, but REFUSE to become addicted to, is important to pay attention too. This thing gets me every now and then. I gotta understand that being on a message board, alomst 24/7 pretty much makes me miss life. Going back to my world's worst unopened box display collection now, while I open this box of 1981 fleer baseball.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • If Lisa Bole's card sells for moe than any 1971 Topps common now, we all scrwed ourselves. Vernon though, I can see.
  • Like this guy. He had a legit baseball card. Dynskibzi. You don't right ? I don't either so in this area, this guy succeded. No matter where or what this guy ended up, it's still much more successful than a few things around here.

A few years ago, someone on here posted they had the whole set of winners except the April Bole Card. I have the April Bole card somewhere buried in a box. I never realized Lisa had a card as well until that thread. Lisa was my babysitter at one time. It was their brother who was a big influence on helping me get started in cards in 1978.
  • Do you think this guy feels the same way?
