1974 Yamakatsu poppage

It was a heck of a process but I finally got these in a psa slab. The set will never be as popular as the 82 all stars set but for rookie card collectors like myself there are some real gems. I know there is the 73 handcut paper cards but these are their first actual cards and were really hard to find. Thanks again to sumoman for getting the information to get these approved for grading

One thing I was worried about was a holder insert that was too big for the card. Those fit like a glove around the cards though. Like they were made for the Yamakatsu.

I am quite certain that would just be The Sheik. I want to get me some 1976s for sure.

For some reason I thought Harley race was in the 76 too. It's to bad that ric flair or some other big names weren't in these sets.

Up until this week, I've only seen a checklist and two albums for the 76AJPW set plus a couple of low quality pictures of the cards. I was beginning to think they were a myth. They are nearly impossible to find. However, I was lucky enough to pick up my first card this week. #5 Giant Baba. I am hoping someday to get more of the big names in this set, but this set will take years to ever complete.

It looks like you did well on these. Nice work.

I see the one Andre sold for $299 and you accepted a best offer on the second one.

    What did it sell for?

I saw Giant Baba at the Jim Crockett Senior Menorial Cup tag team tournament in 1986. I slapped him on the shoulder as he walked by. As a 13 year old who had been subscribing to at least seven wrestling magazines simulataneously, it was like seeing Bigfoot in the backyard.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

They did ok. If you factor in tge time i spent with bgs and psa to get them slabbed than i just about broke even. I thought the solo card #29 could have sold for more. I prob could have let it sit for while and eventually get closer to 750. If a mint one ever surfaces I think it would definitely be a four figure card. I'm interested to see if any others start showing up on eBay now that these have sold for a decent amount. I've been trying to buy these for over a year and haven't came a cross many at all and none higher than about a psa 5.

I will be more likely to go after them since you did all the work to get them in a PSA holder. The upside is way more limited if PSA does not grade a certain issue. Thanks for all your work. I want some of those 1976 cards.
