Hello fellow collectors,
I know I can research threads, but don't have a lot of time. I need some brief advice on how to post pics of a box break I was involved in. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Been collecting on and off from 1982. Football is my favorite, although, I do like baseball. Always looking for 1984 Topps and 1989 Score Football PSA 10's.

<< <i>The best way is to have your own server where you can post and archive things that will remain there as long as you own that server. >>
This has got to be one of the shortsighted posts I have ever seen.
Why invest the capital in the hardware? You have buy a rack, server, power and upgrade your ISP to business grade if you are going to host. Way too much money. And actually an archaic thought. Have you graduated to the cloud yet or are you still on dial up?
Even is you just buy a "server" you are looking at two grand if you want minimum redundancy. Plus you will need a backup solution and off site storage etc. Seems like a waste of money. You could do one of the following and save some serious coin and also have peace of mind that your data is backed up every night.
Easiest, cheapest and most stable option is upload to a cloud provider. Photobucket comes to mind first and you can post your links in your threads. You don't control a lot here but it is very easy to work with. (This is my recommendation for you)
If your goal is to archive as stated above you can use something like drop box or google drive. There is a monthly fee but the redundancy built in by these companies will dwarf anything you build on your own at home. Plus you can do the free option for 10 GB or so. That covers most people for free.
Lastly you could buy your own domain and host your pics there and also purchase a storage solution with them. This is costly but gives you the most flexibility.
Here is what I have done for my family pictures and also some of my scans of my cards for insurance reasons. I own a pair external USB hard drives (2 TB). I save files to one hard drive and have a piece of software that copies all of the files to the other drive for redundancy. I have the drive hooked up to my Drop Box account through my media PC at home. It syncs up every night with what files have changed in a certain folder I have marked as important. I don't sync up everything because it would cost a ridiculous amount of money, just the really important pics and files. So if my house burns down all of my important files and pictures are saved in the cloud. Now you don't have to be a nerd to get this set up and like I said the peace of mind is worth it.
Good luck with your quest to post your pics.
Lastly here is the link from above

Although I do hope one day to have my own site outlined in pink trim

Hello, fellow collector! To start, you'll need an account with a photo sharing site, like Photobucket, imageshack, or the like. Once you set that up, then you can upload your images to that specific site. Once your images are uploaded, you then get to choose from a number of different options as far as what/how you'd like to share your pictures. You then copy and paste that link (usually the one that starts with IMG) into the reply field on the message board.
Hopefully this helps...Good luck! Paul

While most don't have such a luxury, there are many extremely cheap solutions available that give you plenty of control and space.
For quick photo posts the photobucket option works fine, but for the long haul you need your own server, or part of one. >>
