Ebay Buyer Protection

Thank god for it.

Received a lot of what were supposed to be mid grade, mid 70's hockey with a number of HOFers. Scans weren't great but cards looked ex+-exmt and were described as such. For this year, cards are hard to find in good shape so was happy to get the lot and paid very well for it.

Get the package yesterday and the seller has the 220 cards wrapped with two bands of paper (surprised he didn't use rubber bands), then inside bubble wrap (not taped, just a light wrap), and stuffed into a shipping box. Pick up the package and can feel the cards moving around inside. They spent two weeks in the mail like this banging around. As most of you know, sets typically get shipped in a card box packed tight, then bubble wrapped and into a shipping box.

I know sellers can't stand Ebay fee's and CS, but as a buyer it sure is good to know I'm not stuck with $270 of banged up cards. Seller claims this is a great way to ship cards ("they were in a box!") and without the return policy I have no doubt he would want me to eat the cards. As it is I have to eat return tracked shipping which will cost me 30 bucks.

So next time you read a seller rant about bad buyers keep in mind the majority of Ebay users only buy, and if we buy a lot we get product from sellers that is poorly packed or not as described!

  • I totally understand your frustration, BTW if you go through the ebay claim process and call you can sometimes get them (ebay) to pay for the return shipping,
I have gotten it once, don’t remember the specifics but was able to print a shipping label using a link they provided.

Also I know I sometimes insult sellers when I ask for a specific packing process but always offer to cover the extra cost especially when its something I
have been looking for and really want it in the same condition shown. Also noticed when the seller prints " DO NOT BEND " on the envelope it is nearly always
Received in bent/torn condition, Another reason I always ask for a box shipping package
  • I received two boxes of unopened wax shipped with no bubble wrap, no padding. Just thrown in a box, sliding around. By the time I received the box, all the wax packs were loose in it. The seller offered to take it back but the sight of those loose packs was just too much. I ended up ripping them all. It was 83 OPC hockey and the boxes were fairly priced.

That's funny, I would do the same thing for sure with that wax. In my case I paid a big premium for mid grade and it was pretty important the quality didn't degrade during shipping. Every card had multiple corner dings.
