Standard Catalog help please.

Hi guys,

I loaned out my Standard Catalog and am wondering if someone can look up 1963 Post Cereal cards.

I need to know if the small boxes are referenced like the Joey Jay in the link I have provided.

Alpha Bits Box

I am trying to add this to my set.

Thanks

    Hey Joe,

Not quite sure what you're asking, but here's what they have in there (2011 edition):

    1963 Post Cereal

Another 200-player, 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" set that, with variations, totals more than 205 cards. Numerous color variations also exist due to the different cereal boxes on which the cards were printed. More than any of the other 1960s Post baseball issues, the set is rife with short-prints and other scarcities which make it more difficult to complete than earlier years' sets. The 1963 Post cards are almost identical to the '63 Jell-O set, which is a slight 1/4" narrower. Cards are blank-backed, with a color player photo, biographies and statistics on the numbered card fronts. No Post logo appears on the '63 cards. The complete set price does not include the scarcer variations. An album to hold the cards was given away at grocery stores in a display featuring Mickey Mantle.

I'm sure the Jay in the listing is the same size as any of the other cards. Not sure what the variations in colors might be. There is only one listing for Killebrew (card #5).

    Thanks Bob,

I have the only single serving size complete box graded. PSA does not want to add it to my master set as a regular item because "it's the only one graded and it was graded Authentic".

There are several items that have been included in master sets that are one of a kind and "authentic".

Was hoping that the Catalog would specifically mention the single serving box to help prove my case.

The individual serving boxes like Joey Jay box are extremely rare and valuable but all it contains for set registry purposes is a common Joey Jay Post cereal card. You plug it into the registry just like you would any other Joey Jay that was cut out from a Post Toasties or Sugar Crisp box. To make the individual box a requirement for the registry is just duplicating a Joey Jay card, and it would also mean you'd have to make all the other complete boxes or panels that Joey Jay came from also a requirement of the registry. I'm pretty sure that for PSA master set registry purposes they no longer allow all the different configurations of cards that can be created from cutting up boxes and panels of Post cereal cards. If you have a complete box it obviously has much greater value to a collector, but in the registry it's just counts as a Joey Jay card.

That's hilarious! When I started collecting Killebrew, I figured only one card would be needed to fulfill the requirement. For almost every year that Bazooka issued cards, you need a single, a three card panel (2 card for 1968) and a complete box. Oops some complete boxes are too big to fit in a holder so they grade them with the top and bottom flaps removed. Not to mention the Transogram issues from '69 & '70

I decided to take a shot at the #1 spot in the MASTER set as I had a ton of this oddball stuff raw.

Now I am being told that the same thing doesn't apply to the Post single serve box, not because of the reasons you list, but because there is only the one graded and it has the top torn off the box and was graded "authentic". There are items similar to this in other player sets already.

I am happy to have the Post item in my collection, but I do feel that it "deserves" to be in the Master set. Apparently it will, as soon as someone sends in another one to be graded. That does not help me in this years attempt at reaching the #1 spot. Just looking for some consistency in how things are done.

If you believe another one being submitted for grading is the only thing holding PSA back from adding it to the registry then simply pop it out and send it in again for grading. With only an authentic grade there's no risk of coming back a lower grade. There will be 2 in the pop and then you can make the case for adding it. PSA has added a lot of things to sets based on 1 person wanting it added. They were cleaning up replication of the same things for a while, like the example of your 2 card 1968 panel. It will stay in unless somebody complains. Those who have it in a repeated format want it in, or to stay in, even if goes against how PSA is doing things now. There may even be a few things you don't think should be in based on not having it and not wanting to buy the same thing again in a different format.

I never though about "popping it out" and having it regraded. Seems a bit disingenuous, but I suppose it would be a lot cheaper than buying the Jay box and submitting it.
