How much would you spend?

How much would spend for a card that has little value except to you? I am working on a player set (favorite player growing up but, not that popular) and there are some cards listed on ebay that are on the expensive side. Now I don't think that anybody would buy them unless they are working on a year set but, this players graded cards don't come up that often. So I am wondering if I would be stupid for buying these for my pc at these prices because, I would never get these prices if I had to sell them in the future. Thanks for the responses in advance.

I have overspent many times on cards I really wanted. It is the intrinsic value that matters most to me. The bigger regrets I have ever had is NOT buying cards when I had the opportunity simply because I was afraid I would regret it. Just my opinion.

What are we talking about? Is it a $20.00 card and the seller is asking for $50.00? Is it a $2.00 card and the seller is asking $5.00?

It also depends on what you can afford. Spending a little more and getting satisfaction and enjoyment from the card is fine!

I'll buy PSA 10s of one of my favorite childhood players for $7-$10 when I can. These are cards from 1983 on.

Given the scenario you present, it might be better (cheaper) to buy raw and submit yourself.

I'll co-sign this, largely because it's a pretty good description of most of what I collect.

If you collect for the enjoyment of it, especially the kind of cards you seem to, you probably need to avoid worrying about resale value.
  • Sometimes I'll over spend to get a card I really want. Chances are that if you ever resell, someone else will be looking for the same card.

there's nobody there that collects, that has never "over" paid for a card at one time or another

I would spend as much as what I valued the card to be and not one penny more

I may be overly sentimental, but the cards that I choose to buy have more than
monetary appeal, and I am NOT a set collector. I just buy cards that I want
and mostly they're cards I had as a kid and lost later.

I don't buy expensive cards, but they're generally not cheap either.

Buy cards you love and that won't break the bank.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the PSA 10 collector he didn't exist.

The best investments are cards that you value for your PC.
