I sure could use some help attributing this piece.
I've been looking through dealer sites trying to find a match without having any luck.

I'm pretty sure the obverse legend says, in part, HENRICUS, making this probably Henry VIII (I don't have my Spink book next to me).

    Thanks EVP.
Perhaps I'm not seeing things then. I thought I made out HENRICUS even though I'm seeing two 2 "C"s .
I hope it's a Henry II since that would make it my oldest medieval penny.

I think it is more the style of Henry II than Henry VIII.

This is a "short cross" penny; this same design was issued by kings Henry II, Richard I, John and Henry III, all bearing the "HENRICVS" name on the obverse. In this particular case, the ID can be narrowed down by the reverse legend: LEDVLF ON LVND. Ledulf isn't a common name; Spink lists this moneyer at the London mint only for king Henry III. For Henry III, short cross coinage was only issued between 1216 and 1247, being then replaced by "long cross" coinage.

I believe this is a "Class 7c" short cross penny; Spink #1356C.
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD. B)
