Ken Venturi...off topic, sort of

I haven't posted on this forum for about 2 years. My computer died and when I got a new one I needed a new id and password. I have been collecting off and on for about 45 years, seriously since 1992. I have attended most Fall and Spring Baltimore shows since 1993. About 10 years or so ago I was at the Orioles Bar in the Sheraton hotel when I learned about a charity auction to be conducted that night. I learned that the celebrity host was Ken Venturi, and being a golf fan I decided to go. That night my friends Bob, Andy Larry and I went to the auction. We asked if we could meet Ken Venturi and he came over, scotch in hand, and spent 20 minutes shooting the breeze with us. What a nice man! I asked if he would autograph a baseball for me if I won it in the auction, and he replied that he doesn't usually sign baseballs. Anyway, I won it, and he signed it. I've had many great experiences at the Baltimore shows, and that night was right up there with the best of them. Rest in peace Ken.

I too was a fan of Ken Venturi.

In the movie 'Tin Cup', I believe the film captured the quality and personality of Ken Venturi's golf commentating very well.

    RIP Ken.

I will likely be corrected on this by someone- Ken Venturi won the the 1964 US Open at Congressional. He was sick- I mean really sick-bad flue with a temp running at 101 to 103. Think about heat and humidity in DC in July and he held on to win.

Yep, he won the Open in 64, the last year the tournament had 36 holes on the final day. My understanding is he was so dehydrated that a doctor told him to quit playing. Obviously he didn't take that advice.
