An interesting look at color progression...... I didn't recognize my own coin

Ha....laugh is on me, after looking up the cert number I said......hey that's mineimage

An interesting color progression on the toned ASE and thought to share with you guy's.

I bought this coin some years back in an old PCI holder. I loved the pastel toning.....The first image is right after I bought it, then
the after a few years I decided to submit to PCGS, you can see the trueview. About two years ago I sold it
and regretted it so I asked the member who bought it if I can buy it back. When it returned home it was darker but still
had all the colors in the trueview( I need to look for that image)

Well, today I took it out from the safe and didn't recognize it until I looked the cert up.
It has deepened in toning and lost the symmetrical greens and blues on both sides.

Although very different and looking quite similar to my other PCI toned eagles, new toning is taking over.....a deeper orange, reds and
the blues are becoming much darker, although does not come out well in my images. Also the light greens have progressed into an olive tone.

So, they do continue to tone in the slab and curious as to what it will look like in years to come.

I included a few of my other coins that are slabbed and I will guess they have been in holders longer than the 1999 coin.

The original images when I purchased the coin.

A few other slabbed ones, very similar toning to the coin now.

Now curious as to what the other still to be slabbed ones will look like and was going to hold on to them until they tone more but
after seeing the change in the 1999 maybe it is better to slab them now.

As usual, beautiful selection. I especially liked how the PCI label said "100% white." As if one shouldn't expect toning.. lol

I figured they'd keep toning if left in the PCI holder as that obviously helped them tone to begin with given they were slabbed in those holders when 100% white. But I'm surprised to see the continue to tone after they have been transferred to a PCGS holder... interesting!

    As always, nice coins image

These ASE's are nice, but I doubt there will be any attractive ones around in a couple hundred years. 100% silver is just too reactive.

It will be interesting to see how these progress over the decades. Who knows what collectors will think of dipping (or some other similar procedure) in a hundred years.

I agree completely. I find it interesting that the toning progressed in the inert PCGS plastic. It also makes me unsure of my plan to keep my PCI toners long term in their holders.
