How about a Modern (1990-present) forum?

Part of the problem with modern, aside from massive overproduction in certain years, is that no one really spends too much time focusing on complete sets for the modern cards. There are a few exceptions, (e.g. 1993 Topps Finest and 1990 Leaf), but some very attractive sets, such as 1993 Fleer and 1993 Donruss, have been virtually ignored. I think a forum focused primarily on the sets, and not so much on the inserts, would be a good thing for the hobby going forward.

There is a graded set registry forum but that's probably not what you are looking for. You can probably start a thread and ask what 90's ungraded sets people are building though. I slowly add to my 89 score football set that I have in a binder.

I am a fan of the mid to late 1990's inserts and parallels. I think that forum would be fun.
  • Up to about 92 I am familiar with. Beyond that, I do not know the 90's well in terms of what was released. I would say all of the 2000's I am not familiar with also.

I also think that a 90's fourm would be great. I collect cards from the 70's as well of stars of today. I just recently got a few of todays youngs players like the padres second base rookie. I just paid for the braves young shortstop simmons. I mainly collect bowman chrome rookies.

heh - based on what I've observed, N54 defines modern as 1946ish on up. Most there aren't too tolerant of postwar cardboard. I don't have a problem with that - every forum has their niche, and N54's is definitely prewar.

If modern is your game, you'll find a good fit on FCB. Lots of 80s- and 90s-era player collectors and tons of guys who prospect the up and comers. In my opinion it's the top site for the modern collector.

What does FCB stand for ? I would like to check it out. Thanks

Would love to have one on here. The net54 one is stagnant...and Blowout is just too frantic for me sometimes.

I put together full sets, and love grading, collecting, and selling high end rookie refractors, autos, and serial numbered stuff. I'm always working on one vintage set at the same time, but I enjoy ripping and following new prospects and players too.

Glad this thread is picking up a little steam. image The modern forum could highlight sets that most collectors have forgotten about, but are worth merit because they're attractive and affordable. For instance, this set can be had for the price of one vintage PSA 7 common from the 60's:

This is the 1993 Fleer Baseball set. The backs are just as attractive as the fronts, with full stats and a cool color photo. The player's last name in bold letters is a nice touch.

That's a really cool set. My heavy collecting years as a kid were 1980-1989...I left for college in 1992, and missed the entire 1990's boom and bust. Part of me is glad because I've been going back and opening wax and putting together sets from the 90's. I know there was a lot of junk, but there was also some really cool stuff, that can be had for a song.

    I dig these sets...
