Thanks

How's NGC's grading compared to PCGS in the Buff series, specifically Mint state? I'm looking to cross a NGC 65 to PCGS. The coin has amazing luster.........what's my chances of crossing?

Just based on the averages and nothing to do with the coin, I'd say at best a 25% chance. Even with killer luster you still need the coin to be solid for the grade in total marks, eye
appeal and strike as well.
Now that you've posted a photo of a 13-s type 1, I'd say less than 15-20% odds of a cross. Doesn't look to have great luster and it does have several obvious hits. I just don't see this
coin crossing as it doesn't jump off the page at me like a solid to higher end MS65 would. PCGS would be even tougher for a cross on a better date like this.

Respectfully, if that coin has amazing luster, the pics don't show it well. I would put odds of a cross to PCGS 65 at almost nil if done in the holder. Outside the holder and if the luster's better than shown, there's a chance.

<< <i>Sorry Chris ..... the coin doesn't appear to have enough luster. BUT THE GOOD NEWS....... MS64 + 2 feather >>
I forgot about that. 2 feathers defiantly.

An NGC MS65 usually crosses-----------to a PCGS MS64

How would you compare this NGC MS65 2-feather, No F to your recently sold PCGS MS64? I almost pulled the trigger on this one when you had it on eBay, lol.

<< <i>Well I got the news today. It crossed at 65. I guess the lesson is that you can't grade from pics and notions of bias are silly

I think it just proves that you need to improve your picture taking abilities.

I'll disagree about the lesson though. Something that happened once gives you zero ability to predict what happen the next time.

Yeah, I agree. One instance is statistically insignificant. It is very plausible to grade correctly from images.
And a 2 feather to boot- which dramatically increases the value and interest factor.
Congrats!

Taylor - I hope that is a rootbeer emoticon.

Meh! Not necessarily silly.
The person that won 590 million in the Power Ball probably thought it was a little silly to buy another ticket but s/he went for it.
The name is LEE!
Certainly cause for celebration

I think in a lot of cases both NGC and PCGS detract a point or so from the grade of a coin in a rival holder when considering whether to cross.
