1989 Pro Set ?

The 1989 Pro set Football has a series 1 box and a series 2 box and the set is numbered 1-564
Does this mean that the series 1 box has the low# cards 1-282 and the series 2 box has the high# cards 283-564?

Thanks ahead time and sorry if this is a dumb question

  • series II boxes contain all cards, which in my estimation makes the high numbered cards significantly shorter printed than the rest.

If I remember right series 2 contains both series 1 and 2 Series 3 would contain cards from all 3 sets. The powder blue borders on series 3 were one of my favorites.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

I could have sworn the Series 3 was only distributed in a cello-wrapped set. It was only like 20 cards? The powder blue borders are cool.

I agree with the above. From what I remember, Series 3 was separate. Wasn't that the one with the Sterling Sharpe rookie?

The blue Final Update cards can be found in packs as well. The packs that contain them are in cases marked "final update." Their primary method of distribution was the mail-away complete, cello-wrapped set.

They can be found in two varieties: normal gloss and heavy, thicker gloss.

I've never heard of a heavey gloss variety. Does psa differentiate between the 2?

No, PSA doesn't differentiate between any variation not cataloged in the big books. It's a known variety to Pro Set collectors but not a big deal for the most part. Both types can be found with a little hunting.

The sealed mail-away sets are available in two versions: one without the header and checklist cards and one with the header/checklists included.

That's interesting. I have find a glossy sharpe rookie. What were they distributed? Any idea how limited they are compared to the regular cards

I have no idea, really. They aren't as noticeable a difference as, say, a base Topps vs. Tiffany, but held side-by-side, they are easy to spot. A few years ago, I sold a complete set of the glossies for $25-30 or somewhere in that range.

The glossier cards are most-likely the result of Pro Set using four presses or whatever their claim to fame was back then.
