Question about REA Auction >>

Interested in possibly bidding for that 52' Topps SGC 80 Mantle, the card that was owned by him. Anyone have any ideas about how much this card ends up at? Really looking for a very good copy of the card but when I think about the 18.5% buyers premium I'm almost tempted to pass and see what's for sale at the National, I also have never attended a National show and want to know if any purchase their will be subject to local sales tax?

Thanks.....

I doubt you'll be getting major price breaks on a card of such caliber at the national. If you see the one you want, wherever it is, I say determine what your best offer is and see if it is good enough to reel it in. Good luck!

I've never seen anyone charge sales tax at a National.
While the prices are high at shows, they are easily that high or higher in REA. I think the bigger concern would be paying a premium for a card that Mantle once owned.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Card is currently at $32,500 and change. That card in that grade seems to sell from anywhere between $16K and $25K, with some copies selling in the $30K range (most likely well centered). This card, being once in Mantle's collection, will attract a LOT of Mantle collectors. The pedigree will most likely put a 10-25% premium on this card, if not more. Factor in the fact that the card is actually pretty nice for the grade, and it's freakin' R to the E to the ************' A, and you have the makings for a very high dollar '52 Topps Mantle SGC 80.

My wild guess would be $55K.

Oh, and regarding the 18.5% BP... most buyers are factoring that in when bidding. So while it may seem like a negative aspect of bidding with an auction house, most of those bidding against you are adjusting their bids to account for the BP.

And, damn, this is a sweet Mantle, regardless of provenance...

This card is going to see some significant last day action. I know a Mantle/Yankees fanatical collector who told someone we both know "whatever it takes." He has the pockets, but I am not entirely sure that he is serious. The key for this card is that there are numerous Mantle/Yankees fanatics with deep pockets that could drive this to insane levels late. Honestly when I saw this card in the catalog my first thought was that KO would end up with it. Seems like something he would chase. I'll guess $55k to 60k + BP, but I would not be shocked if this thing went higher.

That Mantle has changed hands NUMEROUS times since it first came to auction. I believe this is the 3rd time within a year. You can google it and find out the previous auction prices to get a good idea where it would land. If it falls into the hands of a collector instead of a flipper, she might disappear for awhile.
