Is a PSA 8 oc card considered NM-MT?

Or how about a PSA 9oc... is it still a mint card?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A card OC Top to Bottom doesn't bother me as much as OC Left to Right.

A PSA 9oc still says "Mint"
    A PSA 8oc still says "Nm-Mt"

    Right?

Technically, they are characteristically NM/MT and MINT with flaws. The "NET" grade is typically 1-3 grades less, by definition.
  • Not to me.

Correct and I agree. My point is for the post on the 1973 set.
I find many people who sell raw say they have nrmt-mt - mint cards only to find out or see the cards are off center.
I think this is a clear case of what this seller is describing.

Cards are Nm-MT but have centering issues...

Are we talking SGC Nm-Mt OC or PSA 8 Nm-Mt OC?

Raw versus graded are two entirely different animals. Market acceptability for raw cards tends to be less stringent that the requirements of the recognized TPG's.

Personally, I have no qualms with someone calling a card Near Mint that presents NM/MT or better but has 70/30 centering. Additionally, I think there are specific issues where off centered cards are even less crucified. I think many would take an otherwise MINT 1971 OPC baseball card that someone called NM or NM/MT even if it were centered 80/20 as long as they were aware of the centering issue.

I don't have a problem with a seller using the words NM or NM-MT to describe the attributes of a raw card without regard to centering as long as there is a clear scan provided. NM-MT, to me, would describe a card that is "pack fresh". NM would describe a card that is one notch lower, usually with some sign of wear (perhaps one corner that isn't quite sharp). Centering is a side issue.

For graded cards, I shy away from using NM-MT or MINT in my listing if the card is PSA 8 OC or PSA 9 OC. I'd rather just provide the grade.

Anyone buying a set that is partially graded should NEVER assume that the ungraded cards will even remotely approach the condition of the graded ones. If they do, then why aren't they graded as well? I have numerous sharp NM to NM-MT sets where I've graded the nicely centered cards (8's, 8.5's, and 9's) and left the rest raw because of centering. I would hesitate to sell these sets as sets--I'm much more likely to sell the graded cards individually and the rest in a raw lot.

Qualifier is a bad term, it should be called a Disqualifier. It's PSA's way of saying "This card would be Mint if it wasn't so off center". The whole qualifier thing is stupid and should've been done away with a long time ago, especially considering they let the submitter dictate whether the card is eligible to receive one.

Here is how i feel about qualifiers...

this is a $10(0)* USD Bill

*if it had one more zero on the end, it would be a $100 USD Bill. But it doesn't, SO IT ISNT A $100 BILL!!!

I'm the opposite. I will grade the stars and leave mint commons that look like at least a 9 but then my sets are 80's hockey where it makes little sense money wise to grade the commons.
