Browsing weekly internet auction on HA

Have you ever browsed the weekly internet auction on HA.

Usually I just stick with the "bigger" auctions for the pieces that fit my collecting trends,

and it lets me keep the coin fund from getting to low.

But I took a look at this past "weekly world auction" and this coin really caught my eye.

I don't know what it was, maybe the detail on a 840 y/o piece.

Well I decided to thow in a bid at what I would pay for this coin with no research.

And I won, can't wait for it to arrive.

Anyone else have a coin they just loved the look of and took a leap of faith on.

These are HA's photos and the coin is uncertified with the description
"Bela III (1172-96) AE Trachy ND, Huszar-72 var. (blundered legends), aXF. RSAX (retrograde) RSBX, two kings seated facing within Gothic niches / SANCTA MARIA, Virgin Mary seated facing. Green and brown patina."

I do browse those auctions regularly and bid on stuff - because you really can find some great finds on there that nobody else notices because they are mis-described or under described.

That said, I saw that piece and would have bid on it for the unique aspect of the design, but Hungary is far out in left field for me collecting wise.

I ve never bid in an auction and thought of startiing with that coin, which I know nothing about. I resisted, but glad you didn't. It's totally cool,
    What ever it is.

It looks like Paul Klee designed it.

    I love it.

Well done - that is a wonderful design. I've seen some intriguing collections start with a seed exactly like the purchase you described. You are kicking the tires of a fascinating area of numismatics.

I like it. I've dabbled in a little Hungarian coinage before when I dated a lady from there. Some really fascinating pieces. You can pick up stuff especially the denar and minor coinage from the sixteen and seventeen hundreds for super low prices.

It's amazing how far we've come in our ability to put images into metal.

Very cool NEWP! Enjoy it in good health!!!

To answer the OP question, yes I do look at those weekly HA listings but rarely place bids. I keep going back to the site because they have some great items on a regular basis. However, each time, I am quickly frustrated because I find it difficult to navigate. So I don't linger very long. Didn't see this but if I had, I probably wouldn't have bid as it's not my cup of tea. I do like it - my praise was heartfelt - but I'm really a silver guy.
