How to crossover packs - GAI to PSA

I have some GAI packs kicking around and would like to get them slabbed for consistency sake.

Has anyone crossed over slabbed packs? Wondering if I can sub in the GAI holder and if they pass the PSA test they remove and slab. Isn't this the process for card crossovers?

I would hate to remove for fear of damage or possible failing PSA's verification.

Thoughts? Thanks

I crossed this from a GAI 6 about a year ago now. I was already thinking it would either drop to a 5 or come back fake based on the horror stories I have heard about GAI. I wasn't sure it was early enough GAI to help, I guess the earlier the GAI the better chance it's legit based on who they had working for them. It was my first ever sub and it had been sitting in a safe with a raw Montana RC Cello I had bought at the same time like 10 years ago. I was super happy when I got the results.......

I should also note it was the reason I got back into the game. I had been lurking on the forum for a few months and based on reading posts I took the "PSA Plunge" and started building my PC. The Payton was my holy grail as a kid, yet alone on top of a pack. I hadn't ever seen one at the time I bought it so I jumped on it for like 300.00 iirc. Worth every penny and the wait to have it crossed into a PSA Case. They look so much better in the PSA Cases and I am even thinking of getting put in the new pack cases as they look even better.
  • Nice pack and thanks. It wasn't clear in your response if you submitted it to PSA in the GAI holder or cracked it our and subbed raw? Thanks.

I'd like to sub it in the GAI holder if possible
  • I'd like to get one of those packs, Payton's on my radar. There is PSA 7 up for auction now through Probstein, sits at over 500 with a few days to go

I left it in the GAI holder when I subbed it to PSA.

top of the morning to you gents. I have crossed about 200 packs GAI to PSA over the past 5 years. All between the years 1955 thru 1980. Most were bought long ago raw and were originally graded by GAI long before PSA started slabbing packs. Out of all those packs, only about 6 were not slabbed. Most were pre-'70 and after speaking to Steve Hart he was unable to verify if the packs were legit because they were in the GAI holder.

The GAI holders make it difficult for Steve to determine legit packs on some occasions. Having said that--about 80% of the packs that I submitted were in he GAI holder. The only exception was a '57 wax pack that was a GAI-8. Sent it in and Stave was unable to tell if it was legit due to the holder. I took a chance and cracked it out and submitted it raw. IT came back a PSA-7.

Generally I would not crack a pack out of a GAI holder to submit--especially if it has decent value--because it may not pass muster. I feel it is better to have it slabbed by GAI than having it raw
