With all that is going on they are making a new $100 bill?

mrpaseomrpaseo Posts: 4,753 ✭✭✭
I just heard the news of a new $100 being issued later this year.

Here is the story for the new $100

It amazes me that they are taking this step rather than figuring a way to fix our current issues.

    Long overdue.
It is being done to use higher tech materials in the bill to help prevent the current rampant counter fitting going on.
Much of it apparently coming from North Korea.
Successful trades/buys/sells with gdavis70, adriana, wondercoin, Weiss, nibanny, IrishMike, commoncents05, pf70collector, kyleknap, barefootjuan, coindeuce, WhiteTornado, Nefprollc, ajw, JamesM, PCcoins, slinc, coindudeonebay, beernuts, and many more

They were due to circulate starting from April 2011, am I wrong?
First they messed printing them, then some got stolen here in NJ.
Can't wait to see the new bill on hand!

Ray---They are trying to stay one step ahead of the counterfeiters.

As I understand it, counterfeits of the new $100 were found prior to their current release. Hard to stay ahead if they are already circulating fakes before they are released.

I remember seeing that on the news last year, an early shipment got heisted from a plane.
Never saw any updates like if they changed the design or delayed it because of that.

Can you provide documentation? Sounds a little far fetched to me. The bottom line is these new $100 bills are a lot more difficult to counterfeit than the old bills.

The delay was due to a problem with the printing machine. It folded the notes and damaged few millions bills if I recall correctly.
The heist happened last year when they were delivering one of the first shipments to the facility in NJ. The theft go caught after few days.

rumor has it, the new bills have tinfoil built right in, so if you line your hat with the currency, you can both protect it from theft by "them" as well as shield your brain from "their" mind-reading and mind-controlling "Rays" image

Well, they are the 2009 printing, so they were actually supposed to release a few times in the past. However, the number of setbacks was huge.

When I stop & think about this, I didn't know that we had much bilateral trade with North Korea. For that matter, I don't know how many other countries do much trade with North Korea, except maybe Iran and/or the former Syria.

How are bogus $100 notes from North Korea getting into the US?

It seems to me that someone at Treasury hasn't been doing their job.

The demand for US dollars is world wide so I'm sure they have no trouble trading US dollars on the world market or black market.

One unsubstantiated rumor I've heard from a 40 year stock trader is that these are coming out in October to be timed with some "other event."
Their suggestion was to not have any old $100's laying around but to get them all into $50's before the switch. There's probably more to this change
than just staying ahead of the counterfeiters and money launderers. Us tin-foil hat types can come up with plenty of possibilities for this "other event." image

I heard on NPR that the $100 dollar bill is the most printed. One reason is that paper money is stashed for safety and hedging by people in other countries.
They store and stack large amounts of these bill therefore a lot of printing is necessary. Wow

So, people in other countries store our bills because they are the safest most universal currency in the world.
This is sort of like us stacking PMs, isn't it?

Now with bills, they lose value every year due to inflation and dollar value changes. Perhaps those people realize that (or not) and its still worth it to stack US bills?

Very similar to the point of PMs. This actually steers me to think the dollar with its flaws, is still a strong currency if other countries stack it for safety!

From what I have read (In books), you are correct, many nations stack our $100 originally because our currency was backed by money (Gold). When we came off the Gold standard, so did the entire world, and without consent.

<< <i>So, people in other countries store our bills because they are the safest most universal currency in the world.

Exactly, originally it was exactly that since the USD was as good as Gold, however, when we came off the Gold standard, most countries still felt that our dollar is/was more secure than their local currency.

<< <i>Now with bills, they lose value every year due to inflation and dollar value changes. Perhaps those people realize that (or not) and its still worth it to stack US bills? >>

Assuming that originally much of the world was in the dark on our state of emergency (Financially) they continued to hold faith in the USD and eventually with all the news across the globe, they are better understanding of the world economy and loosing faith in the USD much the way we get when PMs dive.

<< <i>Very similar to the point of PMs. This actually steers me to think the dollar with its flaws, is still a strong currency if other countries stack it for safety! >>

As I have read, the USD was chosen as the currency to judge the state of their own currency (Since it was backed by Gold). Now there is word that due to our debt and falling dollar (And of course not being on the gold standard) that the governments around the world are contemplating moving to another currency to back theirs. This will not be good for anyone.

That would be a good step. The problem is, if they ever go back to a Gold or Silver coin, they would not be able to keep it in the economy, the coins would go in the way of the cent, hoarded in jars in drawers and closets.

They come through North Korean diplomatic pouches. These pouches can not be viewed by any country.

That trade zone in South Korea that has been focused on lately, is a joint venture (oversimplified) between S and N Korea, this camouflages the fact that there is open trade. China has always had open trade with the North, so saying we can trade with China but not North Korea is silly. Who do you think one of the prime outsource countries for China is?

You got me curious, so I had to look it up. The best materials for construction of a Faraday Cage are 1) silver mesh and 2) copper mesh.
