GAI graded packs convert to PSA?

belzbelz Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭
I have quite a bit of packs graded by GAI back in the day. They are anywhere from 7.5s to 10's. Interested to hear thoughts on whether or not I should convert them over to PSA? That is of course if I plan not to open them anytime soon. Thoughts welcome and thanks.

depends on when there were graded, ones that have a serial # that starts with 100... and/or a bar code seem to be the safest, IMO the one with the rounded GAI label are the riskest

Most of mine start with 102...They are definitely from awhile ago...not the new company with the rounded. THanks for the input.

    Grocery cellos?
I'm pretty sure certs with 102 were from the Ryan Rutter era- grocery cellos, rewraps, etc.
I don't collect cellos and this is one of the reasons. If you are going to cross them I would start with a small sample selection first and see how that goes.

All of the 12-card "grocery" cellos from 1970-1974, which are not authentic, were holdered with 102XXX cert #s, so if you have any of thoise, don't bother trying, as PSA will not holder them. I'd try submitting them raw if you are willing to assume the risk, as it is often difficult for Steve to make a determination through the holder.

I do have some of those grocery cellos...maybe I'll just crack them open as the cards look to be in great shape in those packs...when do you think these packs were produced?

Consensus is they began popping up in early 2000s and were slabbed by GAI within a very brief period (which is why all the packs have cert #s starting with 102XXX) before Rutter realized he was wrong about their authenticity.

As a so called expert....What was Rutter's reasoning behind saying the packs were authentic? As just about everyone else knows that these were basically fake and put together well after the cards were originally issued. I hate to ask this....but was there financial gain for Rutter by doing this? I know he's deceased, so I kind of feel bad asking these questions; but what is the deal. I know little to nothing about unopened and can confidently say that I knew that grocery stuff was bogus. Also, where did the Murphy character stand on this stuff? I've heard there were titanic issues at the end of his unopened reign.

Danny ... many years ago I actually had about a 1/2 hour telephone conversation with Ryan Rutter about these grocery Cellos. He actually had an entire story about who put them together and when.
