Top Ten Cards Of The 1970's

If you could only pick 10 cards from the decade to showcase in a collection, which would they be?

What are yours? Here are mine.

All Topps...

1. 1975 Reg & Mini Brett RC - .390, batting titles in 3 decades, solo RC, iconic for decade
2. 1973 Schmidt RC - edged out by above card because Brett's is solo
3. 1971 Munson - solo, trophy cup, horizontal icon, most expensive 9 of 70s
4. 1978 Murray RC - solo, trophy cup, 500/3000 club!
5. 1975 Reg & Mini Yount RC - tough in 9+, goes with Brett like PB&J, booze-blow
6. 1978 Molitor Trammel - best multi face in terms of players featured
7. 1976 Brett - notorious in mint state
8. 1974 Schmidt - first solo card
9. 1971 Ryan - image is just too awesome
10. 1974 Winfield RC

* Honorable mention as a tremendously slept-on card:
1979 Topps Molitor - first solo card, tough to find in PSA 9

These are the first 10 I would buy if building/curating a collection from scratch. In terms of importance, value, and aesthetic.

There are other cards I love but they'd have to come after the ones above.
Such personal favorites:

So many of the HOFers from 1971 and 1973 sets-- especially 1973 Clemente, Munson, Bench, and Aaron.

I love the 1972 Clemente, Rose, Ryan, and Munson.

1975 Ryan and Ryan HL #5, Winfield, Aaron 1 & 660.

All the 1977 All-Stars look great.

1978 Brett, Reggie, Winfield.

1979 Dale Murphy - his first solo card after two group shots

I know the Ozzie RC is a glaring omission from the list but I've just never been into that card as much as the others in my top ten.

Also I know it would be much easier to pick favorites from each year, so to make it more difficult and heart wrenching I went with ranking the top ten of all the decade's sets at one time. Gotta make some tough cuts! Feel free to shout out those others that are held in high regard but couldn't make the cut.

'76 Bench is a classic, too. Would replace '78 Molitor with Murray.

Correct, I think he only wore #21 in 1975, maybe only the early part of that year even. They recycled a pre-rookie photo.

    1975 George Brett
    1978 Paul Molitor/Trammell
    1974 Dave Winfield
    1973 Mike Schmidt
    1979 Ozzie Smith
    1972 Carlton Fisk
    1975 Robin Yount
    1978 Eddie Murray
    1976 Dennis Eckersley
    1977 Andre Dawson

I see that several have lowered the ranking of the Molitor card because it isn't a single player card, I've actually raised it to the second spot in my ranking because of the inclusion of Alan Trammell on the card.
