Given some of the recent results we've seen for other HOF RCs (Schmidt PSA 9 and Aaron PSA 8 from PWCC come immediately
to mind), we seem to be in an upwardly moving market for higher quality vintage HOFers.

There have been several threads over the past month or so about "bubbles" and money looking for a place to go. I even know
someone who looks at cards as "hard assets", and has been stocking up in anticipation of fiscal armaggedon.

It's a bit early to pass judgement as to what is really happening, but the one thing that is for sure is that the last 2-3 months
we have seen some strong prices paid for cards.

And the Mini goes for $800....40% of the regular? A bargain compared to the regular issue

IMO the Brett RC is the #1 card of its decade. I give it the slight nod over Schmidt's RC because it is a solo picture and the 75 set is more colorful with more HOF RCs. If any card is going to lead the charge into new higher-price territory for 1970s key cards, it's not surprising it's the RC of an unassailable HOFer who hit .390, won a WS, batting titles in three decades, etc. The mini in PSA 9 has been heating up and this regular example that just went off looks very, very solid for the grade.

Also, the numbers of this card in PSA 9, both mini and reg, are pretty low considering the demand for a mint George Brett RC in most baseball card collections. Between die-hard Brett collectors, 75 set collectors, HOF RC collectors, I bet there are way more than say 175 folks out there who'd love to have a mint Brett RC (mini or reg size). I'm surprised it wasn't a $1000 minimum card all this time, the way that say Bench and Schmidt RCs have been four-digit cards.

    Jeff,

I am totally happy with the card and will be in my collection until my kid inherits it. I will most likely be there one of the days. You and the guy that is always next to you have the nicest cards at the Chicago shows. Check your pm.

Too funny. Also kinda true-- I appreciate the OPC rarity but growing up in the states I just never regarded them the same as Topps.

How does this impact PSA 8 specimens of the card? The pop numbers are as follows for the standard issue

    Total Graded: 5904
    PSA 8 POP: 1874
    PSA 8.5 POP:24
    PSA 9 POP:176

Currently PSA 8's are $125. With high grade cards going for higher prices, will PSA 8's follow suit? What about PSA 7's at $45? Approximately two thirds of the total graded fall in the two grades.

Personally I think only the rarity of the 9 will command higher and higher values. 8's and 7's are just too common. Just look at how many PSA 9's have sold on ebay. I think this is the only one in the last three months.

It may-- only time will tell. While I can totally see the logic behind the 8s and below getting a bump, I think their price will depend more on the relationship between the number of collectors who want a given grade and the number of cards in that grade. I can easily see high-end 8s making a nice leap right now.

Around 300 or so total Brett RCs in both reg and mini at the PSA 9-level is pretty low, considering all the guys out there who'd want one-- not to mention the real number of solid 9s and 10s is much lower, due to the occasional overgraded example or one with poor eye appeal despite being technically worthy. But it is also true that anytime a card goes on a run, especially a classic of its time like a HOF RC, it can spur demand in all grades.

Bottom line, I just never see an accurately graded Brett RC at any grade level being a bad acquisition for a collection.

I see 9s and 10s, which are already amazing cards at high prices, only gaining steam over time. Look at the other thread, the Brett RC is basically a unanimous choice in everyone's lists.

i think the nicer looking 8's could see a bump.

Naturally, not all 8's look the same
