Biggest Jump on Re-Sub?

I had a 1959 topps Jim Bunning that came back a 6. I was expecting an 8. I cracked it open and re-submitted it. It came back an 8 which is what I expected it to be the first time. What has been your biggest jump in grade when you have resubmitted a card(s). I would think a full 2 grade jump is kinda rare?

    I busted a PSA 6 and it graded 3, 3, 3, and then finally 7.
My first submission to PSA a '55 Killebrew came back EOT, ended up PSA 5 next time. If I cracked it I suspect it would get a 6 or even 7.
If the grade doesn't fit, you must resubmit.

I've had scores of cards that dropped three grades upon resubmission, but I think the biggest bump (i..e, the biggest grade change in the more favorable direction) has been two grades.

I had a Griffey UD RC bump from an 8 to a 10. When I subbed it back when it was worth money, they gave it an 8. When it dropped to a fraction of its original value, I cracked and resubbed it, getting the 10 that it deserved.

I had a Charles Woodson jump from an 8 to a 10,it was a piggyback sub, sender got it back

    I bought it in a bgs 8 tomb,thought it would at least 7,maybe 7.5,ended up coming back a 6

Sounds like he pressed the surface crease out.

Not necessarily. My Cosuy had no crease. Any time you deal with people and opinions you are going to have differing ones.

I had a Ryan card that came back Min Size on first try, then they slapped me in the face with a PSA 6 on the 2nd try, and finally on the 3rd try got a much more appropriate PSA 9.

But I thought the major purpose of third-party grading was to remove the subjectivity about a cards condition? image

This entire thread troubles me. How do cards get two-grade changes when there are fairly clear standards
    to be adhered to?

I had plenty of refractors go from psa 8 to 10, and BGS 8.5 to PSA 10

    Once had a 6 go to a 9.
I think the 9 grader may have missed a surface wrinkle that was only visible in high light.

  • I cracked out 9 cards tonight to re-sub.

I've cracked proabably 50 cards before to keep raw for my PC, but these were
the first that I cracked to resub.

    Very liberating actually.

Finally realizing the subjective nature of the graders and their apparent wide range of critieria,
I think I'm going to be doing this a lot more in the future.

My guess is that he was hesitant to take the risk of getting an even worse grade or damaging the card
during crackout -- when it was more valuable. When less so the risk was also less so he felt more comfortable doing it.

Hopefully he'll respond to your question.

Apparently it's more common than we thought it was.

After a 18 monts of dealing with graded card submissions I'm finally
realizing the fluid nature of it. I used to see grades as a much more
    clear-cut thing and I don't any more. It's 10x more subjective than
    I first believed.

You woulld thnk, with probably 80% of grades falling into 3-8 range,
that there were would be much more consistency for those grades.

Plus or minus 2 grades should be a very rare occurence.
