Just came across another NEW Ebay rule...

Now your Buy it Now price must be at least 30% above your starting price. ![image](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif)
I used to list a BIN at about 10% above the start price, figuring this would cover my ebay fees and most people won't mind spending the 10% knowing that they'd win the item immediately. 30% is just too big of a gap to make it reasonable for the bidder to hit it, and I think most will just open the item at the minimum and take their chances. Just another way for ebay to take money out of a seller's pocket.

When I was consistently selling, I liked having the small spread between starting bid and BIN.
Often prompted the buyer to take the BIN.

It would only make sense to grandfather those in, but make it mandatory for NEW listings to be that size. But if it makes common sense, Ebay will do the opposite.

If it does do that, then it will take money out of ebay's pocket too.

Most sellers have BINs that are so high, most people probably don't bother hitting them anyway. But for sellers that had a BIN at right around 10% many more buyers were willing to hit it at that increase, to guarantee their right to purchase, in my opinion.
More money in ebay's pocket for each BIN hit at least 30% over the minimum, less in the sellers pocket for each item unable to be hit at the 10% threshold. Trust me, ebay has run the numbers and found enough people over their entire site are willing to go to 30%, but I, and many others in the collectibles catagories, will be hard pressed to bridge that gap. An extra 20% on top of an extra 10% already is just too much.
