Tracking Down the Owner of a French Coin

There is a French coin that I really like- the 1855-A 5C Anchor. I came across it on eBay and instantly fell in love with it. The only problem is, the eBay listed one, while it has a PCGS MS63RB label, unfortunately has a deep & significant dent on the cheek of the obverse. It's a shame, because otherwise it's a very beautiful coin. .
There's one in MS64 but I have no idea how to track it down. Any advice?

For all you know the MS64 example out there could be blast white and unattractive. It's too bad about the hit on the chin for the coin you listed, it looks quite attractive otherwise.

As far as tracking down the coin, good luck. I've heard of others being successful tracking down a coin, but it involved a bit of luck and a lot of persistence. You're going to need to find an auction record or a dealer who has previously handled the coin, for starters.

You're absolutely right. I guess I'd just like to check it out, at least. I do sincerely like the coin, and I'm also trying to track the second one in MS63.

Do you know the cert number for the MS64 coin? There are methods that others have employed with that knowledge, although I'm not sure how successful they were. At least you could figure out if it's in a set registry and if so, you could contact the owner that way.

Unfortunately, I do not- would PCGS give out that information in such a situation?

I doubt it but you won't know unless you ask.

A "blast white" copper coin would be interesting. image

I stand by my statement, it wouldn't be a pretty copper coin now, would it? image

If you're just looking for that design, and don't mind spending more for a higher grade/different denomination, there's also this MS65 1852-A 10 centime on eBay.
