No, I'm pretty sure it is only customary or proper to expect that in connection with either a group rip or BBCE's 10% Christmas sale. Otherwise, why would the 10% Christmas sale be special in the first place?

I feel we have been blessed to be able to have such a reputable company and super easy to work with owner such as BBCE and Steve Hart. I'm willing to pay full price for items that he has just to receive worry free items. As for the 10% off, that is such a nice bonus. I think I have received it a few times when I purchased outside the group rips. Heck I just give him my C.C. # and he charges it. I don't ask. BTW, don't tell Steve that.

Very well said Paul. Steve and his staff (Rick and Reed) are really a one-of-a-kind organization. I won't purchase unopened boxes from anyone else.

I negotiated with Steve once on a larger order and to be honest felt a ltti bad about it. - to be honest I haven't since. Add ons to the group breaks are enough perk for me. Steve and team are top notch and paying full price is warranted.
Steve has taken the time to become very well educated in determining the authenticity of the product he sells. Whenever I buy from BBCE I figure that besides the product I'm paying for his knowledge and for that reason I've never asked for a discount. I think his prices reflect what he's paid for an item and what it costs to maintain his business and to seek out replacement product. Unlike some dealers who seem to have a day to day price I've never seen Steve raise the price until he has to replace an item that's out of stock. Whenever I've received a discount I've been thankful.

I would say no, he doesn't outside of group rips and Black Friday/Chritmas Specials. I'm sure he's willing to neogtiate on larger purchases but to "expect" a 10% discount overall outside of Group Rips wouldn't really make sense. If it somehow became an issue, I know I'd just raise prices by 10%. The way prices have been shooting up on 1970's and 1980's product, I dont see how he could have his entire site on sale at 10% off.
It looks like in group rips the last few years, there have been many new members joining and totals for the rips, including add on's, are easily in the $10,000+. I believe one reached over $30,000 once. A business can afford the 10% if volume increases for special events.

Not true but I still choose to buy from BBCE because they are #1. >>
Then I stand corrected. It must be just my luck that I've only spotted an increase when a certain box goes missing for awhile. I've just never been exposed to or had knowledge that he had made a mid-case price increase. But I stand by the comment that his prices don't change daily every time you call him unlike some other mid-western dealer.

I have called and asked ONLY when the group rips were happening telling him that I wanted a whole box to myself. He usually doesn't have any issue with that as long as you also recognize yourself to him as a board member. Now if I'm just calling on a "regular" day like a few days ago when I purchased a 1982 Topps wax box, I didn't dare ask for a discount. Thats just a bit tasteless and you would be putting him in a position and you would also just be setting yourself up for embarrassment when he says no.
Great points, I defintely "asked" for the 10% discount in the latest group rip with add ons. As far as price increases, just as some here invest in sportscards, it wouldn't make sense for Steve to throw all his cards on the table at today's prices when it's obvious the market will change in the future. One thing I can say, I've compared his prices to Amazon, other businesses and eBay. His prices are typically lower than all of them.
I asked(didnt feel the least bit bad about it) they said yes and that was that.I figured the least he would say was no,no stabbing or gunshots followed
