That guy appears to sell anything including xmas packs in the past. He's had a number of odd trays these past few months. I don't think he is trying to scam anyone but has been buying and selling anything he can get his hands on. Prices are typically out of this world.
Wax trays go back as far as the 60s, actually, though they are virtually non-existent. Steve sold a raw 72 tray on the BBCE site not long ago. The oldest one I've seen was from 1969 which was actually a 6-pack tray.

<< <i>I'd rather have 3 wax packs myself, cheaper that way. >>
Totally agree. I've seen one other of these 1972 trays before. Sealed trays usually have a premium added on top of the price, but holy cow not close to where this seller is expecting to be on this.

Tim ... is that the one Manny bought quite a few years ago?

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Definitely a huge premium for a wax tray this rare, though the price on this one is admittedly steep. They are a really cool collectible though.

I know Manny has one but I've seen a couple over the years, usually series 1.

<< <i>Does the serial number on the back of a Topps wax tray have the same significance as those on the back of Topps cellos? >>
Yes, as does the tray itself

Not to get too far off-topic, but does anyone know if Topps put the serial numbers on their baseball boxes in the 70s? I picked up a nonsport Topps box recently and noticed there's a serial number with the proper final digit printed on the box bottom.

Most definitely Arthur. They would use some boxes over multiple years until they needed to replenish their stock, changed the price per pack, etc.

Collecting: Any unopened Baseball cello and rack packs and boxes from the 1970's and early 1980s.
Topps used product codes on the bottom of all its boxes but those codes do not always correspond with the code on the packs within the box as far as the last digit goes.
