2000 Topps Traded Auto M Cabrera Rookie - How many were issued?

I've searched all over for the figure of how many of the auto Miguel Cabrera rookie were issued as part of the 2000 traded factory sets. They did not come as part of the chrome set.

The POP report shows 76. A large portion of the total would have gone to BGS.

The cards are not serial numbered. I have no idea if its 5000/1000 or more. Anyone know?

Topps doesn't normally share production numbers. The fact is the autographs are inserted 1 per set and the checklist is 70-something players.
  • I would like to know as well...if we have a rough estimate of the usual set run for these issues then it is a simple division problem. IMHO I don't think that there are over 2000 as I just don't see large numbers of these at any one time...certainly, there has never been an auto that exceeds 5k so that has to be the ceiling? I don't collect autos much but I'm a huge Cabrera fan.

  • According to one seller, the Chrome set is limited to 2000 cases which has 8 sets per case. So that would suggest there are 16,000 sets available.

I believe Topps is usually has higher production than the Chrome sets. I would imagine at least double or triple. So you have to figure at least 36,000. If PSA has 76 autos submitted, and perhaps 76 to BGS, then that would amount to 150 Miguel autos alone. For argument sake we can double that amount for those not submitted up to 300.

If there are 300 Cabrera autos in existence, that leaves another 134 autos from the other cards. So if every player had 300 autos, then that would be 40,500 sets.

Given the amount of sets still available on eBay and that the prices have not gone up much since Cabrera's Triple Crown and MVP year (they were $50 before and after); then I would think 40,500 sets might be a reasonable guess.
  • What I do know is 80 auto variations, 1 per factory set, 20 factory sets per case.

Not sure if the coding on the cases can give a idea onto case qtys?

There are 1480 base Cabrera's graded from PSA. Add BGS and you have at least 2000 sets based on grading? Double that number as a guess to include non graded to 4000. That can't be right as then I only get 50 autos per.

As noted POP report has 76 autos graded. Even if you bump it to 10,000 sets your at 125 autos. Assume 50,000 sets your at 625 autos of each player assuming standard printing.

    Accountants where are you?
  • I didn't see your reply Mygotta, thanks for this. I think we are in around the same ballpark of +/-350-500 autos of each.

Yup, I think its in that ballpark, and 50,000 sets would not be an unrealistic number for Topps given the time period.
