I'm not really a fan, looks cleaned long ago. Not crazy about the damage either (I would give it a 50/50 shot at grading just based on the damage.) I would honestly look for another one, and I'm not queasy about sending coins with minor problems to PCGS.

What damage are you referring to? I do not believe the rim nick is such. I believe it is part of the 2x2? Not sure.

I think he is reffering to the scratch across miss liberty. And i would detail grade this vf25 min all day long

I say 40, but I am not sure if those 'tail' spots are enviromental damage or not. Could be 60/40 in favor of the body bag IMO. Other than that it would appear to have original surfaces.
Edited to add: I don't think the scratch bags it but may lower to a net 35. That spot on eagle's right wing is troublesome. Try an acetone bath to see if you can remove parts of this staining/organic but you may not like what you see underneath.
It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.
Details of VF30 to 35, but I am bothered by the scratch, small rim bur, and reverse environmental damage. These defects harm the eye appeal and value of this coin. While a key date with such problems would still attract attention, a relatively common coin like 1842-O large date will trade at a significant discount. I would prefer to locate a choice specimen of the date given its status as common or only slightly better in this grade range.

I must have been blind not to see the scratch.

<< <i>Instead of sending it in to be potentially body-bagged, how would this look as a VF-circulated piece to be part of a Dansco 7070 album? >>
No offense, but I think you could do better. The color scheme on it resembles Chicago's industrial yards from the 1930's.
Those scratches aren't too great, but I suppose the coin's gotta end up somewhere..
