I can't even get $15 bucks for a certified auto...
  • I was crazy and picked up some for next to nothing in spring training. But I agree, he still isnt selling. Maybe if he starts the all-star game some will take notice and $15 can be had. image

Too funny Kurt...and pretty much spot on. Guy is pitching great, on a nationally popular team and no hobby love as of right now. He's already thrown a no-hitter in his career as well, correct?

The "kid" will be 29 before season's end. He is not a power-strikeout pitcher, has had injury problems etc....

He is pitching well now, and has in the past, but is not a long term "investment". He will have his hobby ups and downs like many others.

Totally agree...but a start like this usually gets the reactionary buyers purchasing a little more.

Remember last year (or maybe 2 now) when Sam Fuld went on a little tear with Rays?...people were buying up cards you couldn't give away before.

Yes his second start was a no hitter. I took a gamble on the Farrell factor with him and Lester. Both pitchers have great stuff but seem to get riled up mentally. Farrell tends to calm them and get them back to not overthinking and just keeping a better pace. Buchholz had significant back issues, which seem all clear now, so I don't see why he can't have a great year, which is why I was buying. I still think since no one has cared yet he is still a buy, with prices where they are.

I agree...last start like this for a Red Sox pitcher? Clemens won a Cy Young in 1991.

I agree with this too. Long term won't be there....but I was only thinking auto rookies for well under $10 with Farrell coming back? Can't be too risky...
  • The spitball accusations could put him in the hobby spotlight.

I have a bunch of his certified auto RCs. When I was working on my Allen & Ginter auto set in 2009, whenever I would send in redemption cards that they were out of, they would send me Clay Buccholz auto RC's instead. I think I have 6 or 7 of them. Glad they are worth something now, sounds like ebay time!

Kinda going OT here, but the talk of Clay's no hitter reminded me of this.

I usually buy Sox tickets through Red Sox Nation during the winter and go with a buddy. I purchased my tickets in February for later that summer. I just picked a random game in the summer, trying to hit perfect summer weather.

A few days before the game, I went to my friends house and spent a few days with them. They have a lake house out on the lake where there is no tv. I stayed out there with his family while he stayed at home that night with his young children.

The next morning I get up and I'm drinking my coffee, enjoying the beautiful view of the sun rising over the lake when my friend Joe calls. I thought he wanted to see what time I wanted to leave for the game that day. Nope, instead he says, "Did you see what happened at the Sox game last night??!!" Well, having no tv, I had no idea. Yep, Clay threw the no hitter. I missed seeing a no hitter by ONE GAME! image

Yes, I enjoyed the next days game, but I would have LOVED to have seen that no hitter.
