So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
Again, many thanks to all for the prayers, good wishes etc.
Jamie (my youngest, who plays ice hockey against mostly boys who are twice her size) is recovering from a pretty big abdominal operation. She's had 6+ weeks of non-stop severe abdmoinal pain with no definitive diagnostic testing or imaging results to nail down the cause.
She tried to "tough it out" and go to school with it, but after the first 4 weeks (with a few missed days) she couldn't keep it up and had been out of school for the past 2 weeks. All that was really left as an option was an exploratory surgery looking for a cause. Seeing nothing significant, they ended up taking out her appendix (based on family history) and gall bladder (based on a somewhat questionable diagnostic test that pointed in that direction) and we are hoping that it eliminates the problem.
Being post-operative she is mainly feeling the soreness resulting from surgery now, so until that goes away we are not going to know for sure. Once she eats some solid food and holds it down she will be discharged and able to come home (hopefully later today), but it could be Sunday as this was a pretty big operation for anyone.
Again, the community support from all of you is an overwhelming comfort for all of us. My wife has never understood my obsession with cards, but after seeing all of your heartfelt postings she has a new appreciation for it as it has given me many wonderful friends and acquaintances that I have met here.
I am glad to hear your daughter had a successful surgery and is doing well. I pray that found the issue and she will be back to "normal" in a few weeks. I think Thunderdan said it best that sometimes our obsession with grades and cardboard makes us take the important stuff for granted.
Dave- I don't know you but have a daughter also. My heartfelt prayers are with your daughter. May she recover quickly and be a little ray of sunshine like all of our kiddo's are. All of us parents feel the same way. warm regards

Leon, she is one of two girls that play ice hockey with the boys at the high school level...."little ray of sunshine"???? He nickname is "the enforcer" ;-)
Seriously, the heartfelt feelings are understood and appreciated. Many thanks to you and all my friends and acquaintances here for your support.
I know it's not hockey, but at least there is ice!

Jamie is recovering well. She was back in school this past Wednesday, and made it through the end of the week (this after being absent 3 strainght weeks and several days each of the prior 3 weeks). She's not complaining of the original abdominal pain, although she is sore from the surgery itself. She's eating (although trying to gradully introduce some fatty foods back into her diet so as not to overdo it now that she has no gall bladder).
She goes back to the surgeon the week of the 21st. The pathology on the removed organs has shown nothing, but the as long as the pain is no longer there we cant argue with the result.
On the school front she had to drop her Spanish class, as she would not have been able to catch up to be ready for the next class. But other than that, it looks like she wont lose anything else this year (she had been slowed by a concussion from hockey earlier this year before the abdominal issues came up).
I cant explain to those of you who have never experienced it what it is like to have a child in constant, severe pain/discomfort and having no ability to do anything to make it go away. It was just so frustrating! And it affected the whole family. My wife does not handle stress well, and this kind of stress was a magnitude 10 on the Richter scale compared to the usual kinds of things that come up in day to day life. Even my middle daughter had a lot of issues with this because of all the time we had to be at the hospital with her sister while she was home alone doing her homerwork or having dinner by herself.
Thank you again to all for your kindness and prayers. It may not seem like a lot on the surface, but the knowledge that a whole group of people are supporting you when you are oging through a difficult period like this is so incredibly helpful.
Dave, glad to hear your little girl is feeling better. Tell her we all said hi.
STAY HEALTHY!

Hey, David, how is Jamie doing with her recovery? I trust all is well and things are getting back to normal.
