wow - that's a great start! Lots that I've never seen too. I only have one to add at the moment:

    Panel 30:

    TL: Satoru Abe
    TR: Masayuki Takeda
    BL: Khaosai Galaxy
    BR: Manuel 'Mantecas' Medina

Good luck, I'll keep adding where I can!

Miklia, Are you planning on selling your 9? I'm really interested to see what these go for slabbed. I don't have any other than the one Pacquiao that I'm not looking to sell.. I'm just really curious what the market is for a slabbed Pacquiao.

What do you guys think of getting full sheets graded?
  • eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,682 ✭✭✭
In more a fan of the cards slabbed vs the panel. The only reason I would pay a premium for a slabbed panel is for assurance there aren't any creases on the card I'm looking to cut since I would just crack it out to cut. IMO if you have any panels and are looking to sell them.. Your best bet would be to have them cut and then sell the slabbed cards.

I concur, but I'm one of those guys who didn't take toys out of their packages to keep them pristine. I'd be curious if to see how graded examples sell too.

    Miklia,

    Thanks for Panel #30!
  • RingKingRingKing Posts: 29 ✭✭
Love these cards. I recently bought several panels that are dead mint from a guy in Japan. I'm not that interested in the Japanese fighters but I wanted the American stars so picked up the panels with Pacquiao, Sugar Ray Leonard, De La Hoya, Tapia, Hopkins, Trinidad, etc... I have thought about cutting them but can't bring myself to do it. But I hope you finish the checklist because I have not seen a complete checklist anywhere. I think these cards would be the legit rookies for Trinidad and Hopkins and some others. Definitely is for Pacquiao.
  • SumoMenkoManSumoMenkoMan Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭
    RingKing,

That's awesome! I'm trying to get the entire checklist here with pictures and it sounds like you have some of the panels we are missing. Would we be able to get pictures of the panels to include in this post? Thanks!

great work guys! Let's keep it going. Trinidad has a 1996 Ringlords, but Hopkins only has a 1999 Browns. Do you know when that mag came out, RingKing? If also 1999, I'd much prefer to have this release!

Also, is there a Tyson in this set? There must be, right?

edit to add, hehe, looks like wrestling thought the same. image

  • SumoMenkoManSumoMenkoMan Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭
My guess is one of the 1996 magazines has Tyson in it along with some of the bigger names in boxing. Just a guess though.

I am not with the panels at the moment as I am out of town but when I am back next week I will check them out and list what I have. I'm not entirely sure how to post a phot on here though. I have the Pacquiao panel with the magazine fully intact. The other panels I bought the seller gave me the option to have them neatly removed from the mag, which saved me a ton on shipping coming from Japan. So I kept Pacquiao's in the mag and the rest are just the 4-card panels with no mag, but the panels are clean as can be, dead mint.

I can't bring myself to cut the panels either. I'll likely just sell the entire set to someone who can cut them up after I complete it.

I'll PM you (can you turn your PM on?) with my e-mail address and you can e-mail the photos of the panels you have to me if you want. That way I can get the photos in the main thread at the top.

Added 12 more boxers to the checklist and 4 more pictures including Panel #36 of Pacquiao. I now have a double of the #14 panel still in the magazine if anyone is interested.
  • SumoMenkoManSumoMenkoMan Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭
    More 1999 cards added today.
  • SumoMenkoManSumoMenkoMan Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭
Doing a little more research, I think this set either will end at Panel 45/Card #180 (which is at the end of 1999) or Panel 50/Card #200 (which will be March/April/May 2000). I have years 1996 and 1998 coming now...hopefully the magazines still contain the panels....and am hoping to locate the Tyson and Ali(if they exist).

I've got a few double of some panels if interested.
  • mikliamiklia Posts: 1,295 ✭✭✭
Great work on this! It's going to be an epic set.
  • SumoMenkoManSumoMenkoMan Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭
Thanks! It's been fun trying to piece the set together and hopefully others find it useful. The lots that I am buying have been suddenly popping up on the auction sites so I have been fortunate in that aspect. It has been easier than I first predicted to work on the set. I wish I felt compelled enough to get the set graded, but I can't come to grips with cutting the panels up.

One interesting error to note is that the Pacquiao panel is misprinted as #36 as it should be #37.

It's been fun and ultimately for the betterment of the hobby.

I'm curious to see if one of the last 4 panels will have a Tyson on it as that would really round out this set.

There are actually some pretty great cards in the set. More than half are Japanese boxers, but the other non-Japanese cards are pretty cool too. Some early cards of some boxers for sure. I still can't bring myself to cut up the panels.... Heck, I can't even bring myself to take them out of the magazines.
  • SumoMenkoManSumoMenkoMan Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭
Just picked up one more sheet in this set. The auction pictures are poor so I can't tell which panel number it is since it is detached from the magazine. I can't even tell which boxers are on the sheet, but I unfortunately can tell there is no Tyson. I'll post a picture when I get my card shipment in from Japan.

Nice work. Are there any rookies in set other than Pacquiao so far? I'm surprised no other cards have been graded yet... Still just the 2 pacmans.

Hard to believe Tyson would not be in the set but the odds are getting a bit short at this time.....still a great set. I'd like to have a few of the USA boxers for sure.

3 more mannys must have popped yesterday. 2 10s and a 5. I have one at psa right now but unfortunately neither of the 10s are mine. Unless they hit the pop report before the order popped... Wishful thinking

Fixed Panel #43 (Sept 1999). I had #169 and #170 flipped. Below is the corrected checklist.
    - 169: Kazuhiro Ryuko
    - 170: Kohji Arisawa
    - 171: Azumah Nelson
    - 172: Wandee Shinwancha

Great thread! I'm looking to complete the set if anyone has extra panels. Still need 1-108, 125 & 126 (surface scratches), 141 (crease), 173-176.

For my contribution, this panel above is numbered incorrectly:

    Panel #30 (July 1998)

    • 117: Satoru Abe
    • 118: Masayuki Takeda
    • 119: Khaosai Galaxy
    • 120: Manuel 'Mantecas' Medina

    Correct numbering is:

    Panel #30 (July 1998)

    • 117: Masayuki Takeda
    • 118: Satoru Abe
    • 119: Manuel 'Mantecas' Medina
    • 120: Khaosai Galaxy
