Help ID ancient? Roman? AE?

One of my contractors found this inside a built-in bookshelf 15 or 20 years ago.

My guess was that it was Roman and it's real, but no clue for the VA???? part of the insert and no idea of value.

But I couldn't be certain of anything. So what do you think?

Looks like an AR. For sure its an Antoninianus of Gallienus w/ MARS VICTOR, Exe is a palm branch. Its a bit on the scarcer side. Hes a super common emperor. In that shape maybe worth $30 or so. Looks to have some pitting.

I agree with bronzemat. Gallienus/Mars for sure. Not the coin that will provide you with a luxurious retirement but way cooler than the lint and occasional spider I find in my bookshelves.
