I have given up on trying to grade the 86 Topps Football, I have looked at so many Rice's and I still can't pick a raw one that has ever graded over an 8.

I agree with you that 86 football is tough, but that has nothing to do with the fact that centering on that Rice is terrible. No idea why it's not a 9 OC but certainly should be. Looks like it will fetch $200 but I wouldn't pay $50 for it!

It was a Spinal Tap card . It was actually an "11" with an OC qualifier , thus a PSA 9 .---- Sonny

  • I wonder how many PSA graders have been fired over the years. Is it true that every card is graded by two people?

<< <i>MINT 9: Mint A PSA Mint 9 is a superb condition card that exhibits only one of the following minor flaws: a very slight wax stain on reverse, a minor printing imperfection or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 60/40 to 65/35 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse. >>

Centering on this Rice is just a hair under 40/60, which is in the realm of a PSA 9.

It's a PSA 9 because grading is subject to the whims of the grader.

Could it be a 9 OC, but whoever input the information for the flip clicked the 9 button instead of the 9 OC button?

  • The 67-33 l/r centering of this card aside, why so many dorks bidding on a poorly-centered Rice?

Is this card so diificult to buy now that people can't wait for a decently-centered 9 to show up?
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the PSA 10 collector he didn't exist.

It looks worse than it is because some of the left edge of the card is hidden under the lip of the holder. I measured pixels at the part below this lip where the edge of the card is visible and got 41/59. I agree that this card has crappy eye appeal and I wouldn't pay PSA 9 money for it either, but that's your answer if your biggest concern was centering.
