What's a reserve for?

A little frustrated that a card on Ebay I have on snipe changed it's status with adding a reserve. Why have a reserve? Why not start the card out at that price?

Also...Can I get some thoughts on the bidding on this card? Bryce Harper Card

Is this not a little strange?

Edit to ask about the quick reviews from Beckett. how reliable do you think those grades are? I feel that it wouldn't be hard to fake as well.

  • I don't see a reserve. Already met?

  • Amazing a card that wont get graded a ten because of that corner is selling at $200 - while the set is going between $250 and $300 sealed.
  • It's for irritating the buyer. That's what it's for.

  • Sorry the link was for the bidding question. The buyer that kept running up the price showed 100% bidding with seller and it had a bid retraction and had only bid on two items with the active Harper being the second. The card I wanted, the seller somehow changed it and put a buy it now option and someone bought it for 189. This probably sounds like more of a rant. I feel like I had an opportunity to buy a good Harper. The pop report only showed 3 grades with a 9 being the highest. And there is only one 9. Bummed

    Bidding looks funky.

I opened 3 sets and all the Harpers were off centered a little bit.

I sold 2 sets and kept one for my PC. I have the one PSA 9. I graded the Darvish Cespedes and Harper. They all came back 9's.

I am sure a better one will come along.

I am sure a PSA 10 will be made.

  • I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being paranoid. You got the one 9? That's very cool congrats! Right now you're king of the hill. I opened a few boxes and those cards look like it would be hard to pull a 10 Harper. I'm looking for one good Harper to put in my PC. I can never find the card I want without someone trying to flip one and earn an extra 20 or 30 bucks. Thanks for the opinion on the bidding.
