I like the 1/2 groat, but I'm not competent to grade the early pieces.
  • Same here, I will have to show my Groat someday to see what people think. Like the letter too, did you pay 86 cents?image

Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.

And here I was expecting to see a letter to the King transmitting a specimen Pillar Dollar for his approval....

BTW, that is a Bust Dollar, not a Pillar Dollar.

That 80 year old dealer note has a definite coolness factor!

The 8R might be a contemporary counterfeit, which is also pretty cool. Here's an overlay from a Mexico Carlos IV and you can see the outline is off. Could be wear, but the slope of the forehead and nose is off.

    Medieval is always cool.

    So is the old-provenanced 8-reales.

PS- it appears the medieval halfgroat is not a London mint issue... I see EBORA... so... York?

ANACS graded the Edward III 1/2 Groat as VF25 details 'corroded'. C'mon ANACS the coin is 700 years old afterall.

I just got some grades back from ANACS that I too was disappointed with, including a Westphalia Notgeld which they didn't even grade(?!) and a BVI proof-like set (it is extremely obvious) that graded MS. Plus, they put zero of my Variety notes on the labels. image

Sorry they spanked your halfgroat, but it's still a very cool coin. Looked fine to me.

I had a similar plastic disappointment, though in that case ANACS liked the coin more than NGC later did.

Heh. I do that all the time. I read the OP without scrolling down, post my reply, and then notice I've responded to the same thread months or even years earlier. Sometimes it's amusing to compare my earlier impressions against the post-thread-resurrection ones.
