newp: 1774 Mainz medal - sede vacante

This is one of my new arrivals in March. The 44mm sede vacante medal was issued to commemorate the death of Emmerich Joseph von Breidbach zu Bürresheim, Archbishop-Elector of Mainz from 1763 to 1774. Described as a schautaler by Peus and a medal by Kuenker with a notation of "R" for scarcity. Classified as Zepernick 268 in the supplement (standard Zepernick ended at 263). Other classifications include Walther 640, Alexander 755, and Heerdt 621.

One of the other new pieces in this buying spree was a 1706 sede vacante taler from Munster. Tough piece to upgrade the EF-45 example I have. This one exhibits a very nice strike and cathedral details are sharp. Minor planchet flaws on reverse add character.

Third piece is also a 1774 sede vacante medal from Mainz. Identified as a 1/2 schautaler; size estimated at approximately 37mm in size(?). Interesting to compare the similarities between this one and the first posted. This is classified as Zepernick 27 (also Alexander 756, Heerdt 622, and Walther 641).

Roman & Zohar - thanks much. It seems I can go for 4-6 months at a time without finding any sede vacante material of interest and then things hit the market in a landslide and I scramble to react. I just happened to be in a good place for this particular cycle.

This is the last piece in the lot. This is a sede vacante 2/3 taler from Hildesheim commemorating the death of Clemens August of Bavaria in 1761. Honestly this one was a bit of an impulsive gamble. Its a fairly scarce piece and I haven't seen it offered much in auctions or on MA Shops. Classified as Zepernick 146.

The Munster piece is so not a 45 I dont know what they were drinking - you should totally crack that one out and resend it to our hosts - its way into upper AU - prob MS territory .

marcmoish - you have a good eye. I will stay out of your way on the next few 2/3 talers that come along. The 1706 piece has AU+ details so I will be sending it in within the month for a grade. The details are very crisp. The EF-45 I mentioned was this one that I was trying to upgrade:
